  1. I reckon they look good as they are. Have you taking paint advice from the Stones?

  3. Looking good Jez. Ruth must have patience of a saint - not sure I would get away with building an engine in the house even if it is nice and shiney!

  4. If that is a cheapy chinesy alternator like mine, I would remove the three made of cheese screws holding on the internal regulator and replace them with Allen head bolts or whatever they are called! Having tried to get my internal reg out with engine in situ I was gutted to have to take whole alternator out (again) because all the screws were marmite! We live and learn!

  5. :) Patience is my middle name! It's not been too bad Gary, his workshop is the conservatory. Not sure the rattle can paint fumes are healthy tho! It better chuffin work after all the time & money he's put in. ;)

  6. Mmmmm, not sure on the paint fumes either. I am sure it will work, after all, everyone keeps telling us how simple these old VWs are! Is there a target date for the install?

  7. It'll start. They always do

  9. Remind him to put some oil in it ;)

  11. @Bertie the Bus no it's the original alt, did the reg a while back, didn't make much difference though.

Don't think we've ever used the conservatory as it was intended, always been my workshop

  14. Don't forget to save lots of swear words for sealing the heat-exchangers to the exhaust with those damn awful metal bands.

I've used strips cut from heinz beans tins, wrapped round then held in place by the original clips
