  1. rude! an award winning combination and a fair deal for all workers/members http://www.suma.coop/

  2. all members (employees in old money) get to do all the jobs... so if i get accepted i could be driving a lorry! probable not much different from the camper or bug - poss better brakes! :D

@Pickles , I have extra plywood for that very purpose. Manoevring a jack on rough tarmac is a pita. @Ermintrude , I shall let you know how I get on, my plan is to get the engine in on Monday morning, but if it turns into a long drawn out job I may well need you if available. Would be during day though, evenings no good. If I had a nice big garage with plenty of lighting it would be an evening, and propbably wee small hours job if needed. I just have my drive though. Sorry @volkswombat , dont want to hijack your thread

Cheers Paul, that'd be grand

  9. Trust nobody (cc @volkswombat ). Check 'em anyway. Much easier to do when it's on the ground than when you're lying upside down.

  11. You'll need to do 'em again once it's settled down a bit. Good to get some practice in ;)...

  17. Shouldn't think @MrsVolkswombat's patience will run to @volkswombat starting the engine up in the conservatory;)

  19. A friend of mine restoring an old MG decided to use the family bathroom (with a few sheets of cardboard) as an impromptu paint spray booth. He managed to avoid divorce proceedings, but it was a close-run thing...

It also helps if you weigh about the same as the engine as it makes it much more of a fair fight.
I have probably removed and replaced the engine on my bus by myself more than ten times and sometimes it goes well and other times it gets a little sore.
If @volkswombat needs some help I am not too far away.

The run at highish RPM straight after an engine build is important as the surfaces of the cam followers are mostly lubricated by oil flying around the place which only happens if the engine spins fast. If you manage to get grooves in them because you failed to do this your engine will fill up with bits of shiny metal instead..
