Case is split its been a lucky escape The centre main bearing was collapsing Cam is definitely shot Sludge from dead cam Missing cam lobe Has anybody got a Bentley handy for crank and big end measurement.
Guides are 8mm for the inlets, and 9mm for the exhaust.. looks pretty normal, but you're looking for the amount of rock/wobble when the valve is around 7mm off the seat... I'd be inclined to clean that head up around the exhaust valve seat, as I can see a hint of a crack at around 1 o'clock... 2l big ends are 50.00mm, with 49.96mm being the wear limit, and the mains are 55.00mm, with 54.96mm being the wear limit... You also need to check the case for potential wear in the main bearing saddles...
Thanks Paul Mains and big ends are just at lower end of tolerances. case is good Heads are clean. Can't tell if it's a crack. It doesn't extend any further than the mark in the dirt
They have a tendency not to... It'll go through the head into the exhaust port where the exhaust stud is
Do I need to buy two types of assembly lube. One for bearings and one for cam and lifters. Torco do a high pressure points one that sounds good for the cam but will it do bearing faces
I use torco assembly lube... I'll double check which one it is, but that's all I use for bearings and cam/lifters
Removed piston rings yesterday to clean oil ways and found one was cracked Wire band holding it together so new ordered
I believe so....but I'll let you into a little secret. I used 8mm metric fine bolts and loctited them in. The thread is that close they went in without issue. Probably get slated on here now for wearing my Spurs and cowboy hat
New bearings arrived today so cracked on installing and trial fitting. Cam didn't sit right on thrust bearing So tried old bearing It seems like the new bearing doesn't fit the cam Email sent to suppliers I hope to sort this tomorrow
