Oil pump in this morning. On the last turn in tightens up on the cam. Is it normal to have to grind a little off the drive where it slots into the cam?
our oil pump didn't tighten up on the cam, what we did do before we built the motor was to check the fit of the pump into the cam' slot. What we did find was that the flat blade part on the oil pump had a slight burr on the leading edge (you could tell the rotational direction) which required a light smooth file up - once we did that it fit a treat
Oil pump sorted The drive had simply not been pressed into the gear far enough. Quick tap with a soft hammer on the bench and it's sorted. Barrels and Pistons on
I was just about to tell you to look at my thread as my pump was similar. On mine the gear touched the cover plate so wouldn't turn at all! Pressed gear onto the drive more and all was good
You've got to get it off that workmate first! (I'd have fitted HX's after the engine is in, it makes it a whole lot lighter).
I'll have to get it off soon it's creaking under the weight I've not got a ramp so lying on my back fitting heat exs is not too easy

Mrs said Can we go out tomorrow morning I said ok Then remembered in the middle of all this the mot ran out.
It's been a joy to see you take the bull by the horns and get on with it without unneccessary fussing. You haven't hung about, that's why I guessed an hour. A lot of people would take all day over it and why not, but I think you'll be away in no time. Don't forget to run in the cam!
That was the second reason I didn't expect to go out in it tomorrow. Running in a cam at midnight might upset the locals.
