I've just read this whole thread and I'm gutted for you at the state of the body, I'm sure you'll have it sorted in no time tho! Keep at it I really want to see this thing on the road
So ive sat me self down and had a chat, went along the lines of.. well, you can either sell whats left, get a tatty t4 and be longing for a bay for eternity ... Or cut it up for wall art and garden benches .. Or lastly...chin up, stop bitching and get on with it. Just about every t2 owner has had to go through it ... It's way above my skill set, but ive trawled through a few of the major builds threads on here (several times) and im gonna give it a go grinders.... assemble Ok it's a bit extreme , but i wanted to tub it anyway.. and there was a lot of strange filler about... This is interesting
Epic repair I think we can all say that it doesn't matter what your skill level is, you can do better than some weld mesh and half a gallon of filler!!
My father in law once rendered the side of a (very rusty) car. He was doing some building at the time, had some cement left over so saw it as the obvious solution! Seeing that filler reminded me of the story. That car didn't last much longer but once your bus is fixed up it'll go on for decades yet. Good luck!
The filler asteroid fell from the top outside corner of the wheel arch, by the seat belt mounting bit.. Rendered car.... mind blown...wow.. Cut cut cut Front jacking point removed.... im guessing there shouldn't be a hole in the chassis?
what a mess, I would start putting some steel back on before you go too mad with the grinder having said that best of luck getting her ship shape she will be worth all the hard graft
My thoughts exactly.. Was a bit concerned with the state of the chassis, so started on that today.... no pictures though Think i may travel down this route....
Tut tut para..... all was revealed on page 1 post 17.. still needs work.. but.. Hate this gasless wire
I was gonna ask what you were welding with... TBH dude, do not fit the jacking point/out rigger until you have welded that chassis repair in properly, as pitted and holed as it is, it is a very weak repair!! This is a JP I welded into para's van... I'll see if I have any other pics of the level of welding you need to be doing for chassis repairs
I know , im not happy with it dude. I'm using a 140 sip mig ( you can see it in some of the pics ) but atm ive got this sh1t wire. First pass was set at 4 all round, then ground down and overlapped on panel warp setting 6 and real slow wire speed Heat penetration ( phnarr phnarr ) was all round until i ground it back, but yeah..... looks pants Need to get gas ( secretly ,i think your jealous of my skills.... )
Very jealous Gas and 0.6mm or 0.8mm wire would be better And make sure your metal is nice and clean before you start welding... earth point needs to be clean too You'll get there
Ok... if monsieur Weeding isn't looking ,i'll update........ oh Paradox might want to avert his ocd aswell So this happened... and a box of magic New front cross member and top hat.. Took ages as i gave it two coats of red oxide and a covering of hammerite for good measure.. Had a small hole on the passenger side to address While these were drying, In the warm and cozy but incredibly toxic booth/shed /bus i had to sort this out.. Only i don't seem to have any pics .... so moving swiftly on.. 1st Lesson on trying to get a good weld on... don't do it when your dying for the toilet... lol That's all been ground back and red oxided. can't do anymore on this side till i get some more panels ordered..
Other side.. Oh yeah baby Sticker out lasted the panel.. Cut out as much as i could while keeping the side door on, but the rest will have to wait till after christmas
Not overly happy with any of it, but the more i dig the more that needs doing and i dont have the time or funds. So have to draw the line somewhere .. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d127/mk1rolf/bus/023_zps4jkfab ny.jpg
