Some of you may remember my first Resto thread on here and some may not, in which case i'll give you a brief rundown of what happened.. Having no experience and usually hungover ,i bodged in an EJ20T subaru lump.. Full build thread if you fancy a giggle is here http://vwkd.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=302 .. But after a few issues.. ok..one mainly,me .. disaster struck with a knackered cam belt. Then to top it off the wife severed her achilles tendon and with no other option i had to become house dad . Money is now tight and the calculations didn't add up running another scooby lump, so with the block sold on it paid for the main parts of the new conversion. First of was a T25 diesel bellhousing and then an audi 80 with this beaut.. After a bit of wrenching, head scratching and a lot of needless angle grinder work ( i do like an angle grinder) i got to this And plan on using the whole audi loom . Then it all had to come out again.....
Then some smart bloke showed me a thread on a guy that was designing and cutting adaptor plates to run the audi/vw passat gearbox flipped ... I was hooked ,and now i'll be getting the correct gearing and strength to go with the engine... Bosh... Only problem was you need to shave 15mm of the gearbox casing to keep everything in check with the clutch and so.... After a few phone calls to engineering companies it was becoming clear this wasn't an easy task as no-one would touch it....drama.. Then a solution popped up on another site.. You build your table/jig........ gthen you get the router out..... And bingo... Making the new gearbox mount as the moment.. Took me ages to get the courage to attack this. Cut a plate, drilled some holes and welded some bolts on.. For this.. Just gotta make the other half for the gearbox side..... to be continued ....
What................ like this *? http://www.vwkd.co.uk/bb/viewtopic.php?t=4206&sid=9eea688f0db2d0f590b38aea689b3377 (* ok it's not a bay and the R is missing, but not far off..) Would of been straight forward plug and play if i'd stuck with the audi stalks, unfortunately i didn't like em lol ,I know Oscar, but it done the job The gears are splash fed, so apart from changing the breather and drain plug over no drama.... the guy is now doing drive in/out complete conversions on T25's
I love these kinds of builds, it's not much fun watching bags of money and bolt on parts being thrown at a car for me. These threads where human resourcefulness, guts and crazy imagination come together is where the real entertainment is, had I read any longer, i'd have gone and put some popcorn on the stove.
Mmm intrresting, I have been looking at these sort of gearbox conversions but looking more down the line of turning diffs around as I'm after a decent automatic and the internals are different, not quite as simple as this due to the crown wheel. Is the bus lowered as it looks like the drive shafts my sit higher due to the box been upside down, might cause fowling on the chassis leg. Not picking fault, really interested how this turns out
LOl there's always entertainment here dude... this is beyond a ghetto driveway build..... hell, it's not even my driveway. I commandeered my nans and have to push bike nearly six mile before i can start work on the rust bucket ... Bus is down two splines.. As it sits on the axle stands there looks to be about two inch clearance, so probably going to need to either go up one (unlikely) or go with hard shocks or chassis notch.. time will tell.. Don't worry about picking or asking questions dude.. i havn't a clue what's going on and making it up as i go, ive seen some stuff that's going on with the t25's and just copying, improvising or just winging it... It's mad aint it... anyway.. mounty mounty mounty.. Still got a few bits to cut off and then slap some paint on it...
With your skills dude this is about as close as you're getting..lol I'm about ten miles south of the Gnome capital Peterborough , i'm hoping to have her up and on the road by the end of march, ready to get out and see some shows wherever in the country they are.
It's not pretty, but i made up a mount for up the clutch cylinder still got to sort this side out though.. It's a bit of a struggle when the bus is only on axle stands
