Friends of ours are on their second Lakeland, first one they got as a rescue at 9 months kept it for 6 then sent it back cos they couldn't house train it, then they got a puppy and having loads of problems with that, personally I think it's them!!
We've got a poodle cos wife's pet hair allergy, don't have him trimmed up like a poodle, most people think he's a cocker poo, he's been up Crib Goch on snowdon and Tryfan North Ridge both grade 1 scrambles this year, little bit nervous of strangers but generally brilliant. You can get good and bad any breed its more about you and what you make them!

  2. Labrador.....enough said!

Black one though,as they dont show the dirt as much as them yellow ones!

got to be a small springer so full of character and very loyal the white one is a springer collie cross that we rescued that was very damaged and if we did it again we would be very careful of rescuing again

Like the springer, but nope. :)

  8. We foster a Springer and he's fantastic. But he needs a lot of exercise (as would a collie) otherwise he can get restless and destructive. Working dogs do. I'd go with a Jack Russell, or something like a whippet...that needs a short blast of vigorous exercise but is pretty sedentary most of the time.

I'd try and rescue if you can.

This is Jess we took her in last week when Lou's brother was rushed to hospital , she may stay depends on his future health and yes she is clever and better behaved than you Zed ;D

  10. Would love to recommend a Westie buy not sure about the swimming ! What about a Lakeland terrier. Was honing to suggest a jack Russell though !

We had a patterdale from a friend who was going through hard time's a couple of years ago but it was troubled , we opened the front door he shot out and ripped a westys ear off costa lotta and a lot of grovelling to the owner .

He could jump a six foot fence and was mad off the lead , it was not a pat like puca but the brown ones that look like minature brown labs , absolutely nuts -

He went back because we got sick of him jumping the fence and eventually ending up in the rescue centre , it cost £35 a throw to get him out , pity really because he was very good in other ways kids and that .

Jess is a nice name she was named after our old show winner Border Jess Jess ! ;)

  16. Zed, your going to have to decide for yourself. Theres lots of factors apart from swimming ability and short coat. I think there are web sites where you tick various parameters and it gives you a short list. Amount of grooming and whether they molt or not is a major factor, our glen of imaal terrier does not molt at all but needs alot of brushing otherwise he gets knotty and matted. It also sounds like you want one that is easy to train but does not need much excercise, the latter probably means that the dog you choose will be on the small side. Particularly if you are going to be living on a boat you dont want a large dog.
    Good luck with your quest.

  17. Dude, Border Terrier if you want to travel around with him/her (i'd advise a dog not a bitch) not too small you'll step on it, not too big for a boat or a van. Chap down the road has one, smashing little thing goes everywhere with him in his estate car.
I'm more of a big doggie person and have an English Pointer.
Hope you make the right choice for you, Shaun. :)

She is lovely Mark , we have agreed no more dogs until Will has grown up but she has settled in so nicely i won't mind if he ask's us to keep her tbh , i think all the upset has brought her into season so only short walks on the lead atm , but i do love long walks and am itching to get her out on my 5 mile walk in the sticks by me .

  20. Well they say dogs look like their owners, so perhaps you should go on that basis. Any suggestions from anyone who knows Zed and is brave enough?
