I couldnt remember who'd done it either, but remember those roof pics, it can be done well, but its all relative to the the time/effort and starting point of what you are painting.

  4. That's fair enough and if your all happy with the end result then great! But if you want to keep the value of your van then get it done properly!
Does cost ££££s for equipment to paint with a mint finish hence high spray job prices!

  5. but would you have known my roof was rollered if i hadn't of told you ?

I'm not tall enough to be able to check!

  8. Ok fair point but mine bus fully painted all be it roller painted with the repairs done to it it's still worth more than I payed and put into it , if I spend 4 k on a paint job I could be out of pocket in the end as they will only go for as much as the next one the way I see it
And seeing what people are buying at he min for stupid prices when there rotten as a pear I don't think selling a good looking van with paint that has been rolled on will be a problem .
But like you say if we are happy with it then why not I would not expect a professional to do this bit like its been said even rolls Roy's did it

  9. I think you're missing the point, this thread is about exploring cheaper paint jobs, I appreciate you restore buses but we can't all afford to save 2-4k for a pucca paint job. Rollering for me I'm afraid.

  10. I would do if I was looking at it admire or to buy it.
But that me and I have a spray booth and workshop and spend many many hrs making my campers as mint as poss !

if you paint 2k in direct gloss id doesn't matter how poor the finish is, you can flat it back and mop it to super shiny ;) , I would let you have a go on mine para, but with 2k so as to avoid an issues down the line, be far away though. 2k flows pretty good, just put a little less thinners in it ;)

  12. What sort of thinner ratio do you think you would need if you rollered 2k?

  13. my bus is hand painted with cellulose i used a brush not a roller as i wanted the drag marks. it was then flated smooth for the weathered look i did this as when i got the van i was on a budget and i did repair the passenger side, but the drivers side was already done but not to great standard and is not straight so was done to hide this i will put the drivers side right in the future. my van may not be everybodys cup of tea but the paint job ows me 0.00p all in as when my grandad passed away i inherited about 60 litres of vintage cellulose all from the 70,s. just so you know my trade was a car sprayer when i left school and have done many years in bodyshops. so i can spray and have spent hours repairing some of my own cars for full resprays but then when you get them to mint condition they can end up not getting used do to being to scared of marking them. to get my van to the point of a good respray it would need to be taken back to bare metal and i would proberly still be doing it now two years on. it could easy cost £6000 for a bare metal respray if paying somone would that put an extra £6000 value on my van

  14. That cool bud but I obviously gonna be against anyone rolling the paint on! If anything do all the prep and then take it to a sprayer! Spraying the paint on the easy bit just need the equip and obviously spraying experience but sure someone at a local shop would do it cheap! Could even take it to college and hire a booth for the day? But I'm sticking against the rolling ha

  15. A nice t2 camper worth £10-£15k easy and a £6k re spray sounds a bit excessive? Must admit using cellous was as bad a brushing it on as it re acts with 2k!
I would quite happily spray top coats on vans cheap enough for people to afford but what people think takes a min to sort out turns into hrs!

  16. it would take a lot more than a £6k respray to make my van worth £10k-£15k most vans that sell for £10k-£15k have had £20k plus spent on them

  17. I apologise if I offended anyone that has roller painted there bus? Just can't get my head round it?? Ha sounds like something my dad would of suggested doing? Ha
Just think if you ve already done loads of bodywork why scrimp at the end?
I ve restored some of worst campers out there and it's always the paint finish that people comment on! Which take a few hrs to put on but yet the resto could of taken months :s ha

  18. like i say its was a time and budget is why i painted it like this you havent offended me everyone entitled to there own opinion and with me it dont matter what i painted it in because of other layers of paint on the van so if i was ever to paint it in 2k i would have to take it back to metal anyway

  19. Sounds as if I like restoring them more than making money! If your van was solid before put the paint on and wanted minimal body work ie small dents surface rust etc I would charge £4k max inside and out repray! And for that I wouldn't of cared if you painted it in under sealer like some numpty did in camper I've done before :s ha

  20. You could still buy a blocker paint to stop the reaction and bare metal not always best way to go! Will end warping the panels taking it off! And thou most you see on the road are wavy down the sides there were straight leaving the factory ha
