Gauntlet was picked up last year bud - by me , not good , loads of rattle cans to cover work done and make her presentable - its ok but you would have to buy a lot more cans than i did to make a HALF decent job - give it a miss and go for the self prep option if you can't afford a full job baybug .

  2. Too late for that mate already started but I will be trying to mix some hardener in with the white sprit based paint to see what happens .
If you see a big cloud of smoke from over Tamworth way it's just me mixing stuff

  5. Lol if it works yes it will I'm not to sure it will but worth a try .
What you recon use the rustoleum with white sprit and some hardener or just rustoleum and hardener

Hardner first and see if it needs thinning?

Keep up at the back. ;)

  8. That was my thought on it

  9. Ok here is a test , a bit of rustoleum mixed with some u pol fast hardener
I do have a 2-1 fast activator for the 2k but have not used it ,
No thinners just paint and hardener and it seems fine painted on to old metal no prep at this stage and the plastic tub I'm useing has not melted yet :)

  10. When i build a trailer to pull behind the bus ill do it to match the bus paint but ill use rustoleum and brushes and rollers
That way at least people will be able to see what its like up close and compare it to the 2k finish on the bus

  11. Ow and a disclaimer if anyone try's my method and it don't work it's not my fault mix at your own risk

  13. Ok some pics this has had a thick coat whitch is not normally what is done with this paint but I'm happy with how it's laying even in the cold and with the hardener it's still the same paint if you know what I mean hopefully the hardener is doing something .and this Was put on with a brush I used for mixing pva to plaster with :)
There is no prep on this panel at all and still it sit well

    Looking good.
Is it thicker than the straight paint?

  15. I totaly agree, I struggle to buy new panels, having to save up for each one. It would be great to hand my van over to a proffesional body shop and have it painted, but what would that cost £2000? I'll be hand painting mine a bit at a time as and when, and the cost? probably £100 - £150. Its simply not possible for me to save the money for a proffesional job, I want my van on the road and been used. Who cares if its not a show finish as long as its got paint on it, I've seen loads of examples of rustoleum and its good enough for me.

Plus I've never sprayed and haven't got a compressor.

Cant see the addion of 2k hardener working to be honest, solvent based paint will still need to dry rather than react - but I'd like to see the result

For the doubters, I'll still stand by my point that you can get an Asda smart price paintjob for £600, It would need to be a tidy bus to start with requiring no repairs/priming, same or similar colour repaint/blowover would go along the lines of 2 litres of 2k paint (£30), a litre of hardener (£20), a litre of thinners, (£3) a pack of red red scotch,(£8) panel wipe (£10) tack rags £2) masking tape/sheet (£10) so round it up to £100 in materials.

A day to scotch and mask, and possibly paint aswell, dry overnight, unmask the next morning, denib and polish any nasties. easily doable on a straight bus, and if the painter is any good they're wouldnt be a problem with it.

  17. No mate that is strait paint mixed with a bit of hardener just for a test it was runny as when I held the brush up the paint dropped of fast so it wernt to think . When painting it on it layed like it was thick paint as if the hardener was bonding it together more

The days of cheap blow-overs have gone around these parts. (Or at least the places I knew of as a kid are long gone).

  19. I'm not sure it will work that well either but it's worth a go the panel is out side for the night and if its rock hard by Morning it's done something knowing the paint from other use it should not be fully dry by morning

  20. i rollered the roof and engine bay of my camper
