Thanks for this thread, have been learning a lot about my bus as it falls in the early '73 category. Has most of the features mentioned: grey clocks, wash/wipe stalk, early doors/locks in handles, petrol flap, lock in handle on the slider, seam on the deformation panel etc.. Do wish I had opening quarterlights though, definitely planned for the future. Havent had the brakes apart yet so couldnt tell you on that one, but if they are one year only this knowledge will be bloody well appreciated, given I'm going to be rebuilding them soon. It does have the brake fluid reservior under the drivers seat though, and for some reason I thought this was a later thing? Also glad I found this thread, because as most of the chassis numbers are missing and theres a few bits I have read were only on later ones, I had been wondering for a while about it potentially being a ringer... Now I'm not so worried about it, so ta for that. Very interesting thread, as far as I'm concerned! But for christs sake, try and stay on topic yeah??
I would like to know the answer to this one. I have one of each and don't know which is correct!!! I don't think it has a blank though, think it is all metal. Check when I get home.
I don't no what I have done but it says that my van is Tuesday O2 January 1974 Do wrong again so why has mine got early bits and late with it should be
My January '73 has clocks like that and the trip counter. Doesn't work at the moment, but it's on the 'fixit' list. Apparently they're like hens teeth, so keep hold of yours.
Maybe a mod can delete the bumph? The brake fluid reservoir was moved under the seat for '73 model year according to the brochure. Why they considered that a selling point i don't know.
Not sure, but my '73 has that style of lock, and also, unlike yours with the grommet where the pop-up button would be, there is no hole in my doors for the button.
Well thats nice news, mines got a working one of those. Nice to have some hard to find bits, I doubt many people would be overly bothered, but its the little things that keep me happy Cheers Zeb, for some reason I thought it was only a later thing. Sometimes its nice to be corrected!
Mine's only not working because I've had 2 attempts at replacing the glass and managed to drill the hole in the wrong place so the reset button is bent over too far and the numbers won't go around. Once I've fitted a piece of glass that a nice person sent me with the hole already drilled, everything will be peachy again.
That sounds like a pretty easy fix, dont get them often round here! And on the subject of the doors, mine dont have the hole for the lock pin thing in them either, but then again, these could have been the hundredth set of doors my vans has seen in the last 40 years, so I guess it can be completely dis-regarded as far as this thread goes..
Oh, each of my buses have different fuse boxes too, all mounted in different ways. My 74 (jokers bus) has the brake reservoir under the seat, as does the doka, which is a 72. The pretender has it begins the drivers seat (LHD) Jokers bus has pop up door locks but the others are in the handle. Mine are all chrome though, no black surround. I also have 2 types if rear mirror, early with the dim tab, 74 without. And different sun visors. 74 has the brake light illumination thing on the dash, the others don't, yet one 72 has a switch behind the handbrake, like the ones on the door courtesy light.
I've also noted 3 different types of drive shaft, and 2 different types of firewall. I'm thinking of more
Thinking about it my 74 seems to have different fuel tank to others, seems itight be an early tank with the late pipes or visa versa. It goes tank, rubber hose with a bend in it, straight pipe, filler neck. Seems to be different to what other lates have
Good thread poptop, thanks Funny how the same old names keep on causing bother even though they are completely innocent What about brakes, remember when i rebuilt mine ? turned out to be all later bits on my july 72 when we thought it was one year only
