Paraffin is my favourite tipple, it has a bit of an oily taste but is less smokey :)

  4. Last night was dedicated sorting out the rubbish EMPI quite exhaust.
I think as soon as you try and upgrade stuff and it’s not original you are in for a bit of fettling time.
After 2 hours of bending and pushing I got it to fit – the problem was that the pipes were bent wrong and the pipes were hitting the engine cross bar – and that made it impossible to get the pipes into the bottom heat exchangers. What a pain in the ass job.
Next, getting the wiring done in the engine bay – got most of it done and the rear light clusters in.
Today I went out and got a leisure battery and the main battery – cost £95.00 for both.

Also while out, got a roll of 2 core wire to route some rear interior lighting, new bulbs for the lights, battery clamps, spades, and a LED strip light that is has a built in switch – is about 350mm long and it rotates looks good and quite bright– so that will go over the cooker bit – cost total cost £65.00 (oh yes a lighting relay as well)
Ran out of gas as I was working, and my garage turned into ”Ice Station Zebra” – so when I got in at 11pm It was either pour petrol over myself and ignite or have a shower to get warm – opted for the shower as it was going to take time to siphon fuel out of the car.

  8. Well a bit of a disaster this week end – looking at the engine tin ware I noticed that the side bits were missing and after a bit of investigation I find out that there is a section of tin ware that goes around the back of the bell housing and has the side bits on it – it was never on my engine when I took it off,

So then this morning I try and find one – so far nothing –and also talking to someone – he tell me you have to take the engine out to fit it – now as my engine is in – that’s a disaster.

Can it be done with the engine in? any help.? Has any one got one I can buy?

  9. If you can't find one at a decent price, then Kingfisher Kustoms do one in fibreglass:

    http://www.kingfisherkustoms.co.uk/productDetail.php?productId=3084&categoryId=17

This is a kit of both front and back, but you could contact them to see if they would sell you just the over the gearbox piece.

You could try fitting it with the engine in, but even if you could, it'll be VERY fiddly - and to be honest it'll probably take you less time to drop engine, fit tin, put engine back in again.

  10. thanks - they look great - i may take the plunge if the one i may have got does not come in.
    engine out i thinks.

  11. Been sorting out the interior and getting it ordered.
Near me is a place called RVtek, and they will do me a sight modification to the one they normally do in Walnut , got the sink and fridge as well– so that’s on order – should be with me end of March –

Also taken my seats and all my door cards (I think about 10 of them) to my local trimmer and he will make new cards out of Ply and do a two tone trim design on the seats and cards – and try and match the design that the rear rock and roll bed is done by RVtek – had to order up 10 meters of cream and 6 meters of coffee colour vinyl to do the lot. (not the rear bed)
So the cost for the whole lot Inc. head lining is………£3290.00- Gulp- but it should look good

So the colour scheme is –
Outside --- Bright white roof – cream/beige lower half side
Cabinets – walnut – seats and door cards – cream (main field) and coffee insets.
    Head lining – Cream –
Floor – Cream vinyl Pearlazzo PUR by Polyflor
Hopefully it will be bright with a good contrast with the dark cabinets.
    We will see!!!!
Oh yes got new tyres today on the new rims - £45.00 per corner – so £180.00 plus vat

  12. Another member has said they were sending me some so ill hold of yours for now but cheers dude

  13. Cant wait to see the pics of it all fitted:thumbsup:

  14. I am trying to get the wiring sorted and getting a bit confused with the ignition – it’s the coupling of the new loom to the old ignition block – I think I have it sorted now – but I must be getting old as I was double checking the double checking, and still not sure if I got it right –

Anyhow put the seals in the sidling door, boot and engine aperture and sanded down the top of the dash – gave it a coat of acrylic primer then a coat of satin black – looked good to start with – then I noticed the Gray coming through – did not use an acrylic black satin – so its reacted – great!

Loads now to do, but I seem to be starting a job – then because I’m missing something or having to paint it – I’m going onto another job and nothing seems to be getting done.

Here are of some pics of where im up to

  20. I had a night of total frustration. 6.30 Till 11.30

The heater controls were a nightmare to understand and I hope I have got them right.
I could not find anything on the net to help – so I have had to guess the right way.
The heater controls have 3 arms to it with 4 connections.
The passenger side one is easy as that is for the cold air
The next one (middle one) is for the 2 cables for the heat exchangers and the last one is for the foot heater control cable.
Getting the things in place was a hell of a job, and working out which way the cable arms go into the leavers – probably the worst job on the van – I can see why a lot of vans have no heaters!!

Anyhow got them in and finished off the dash wiring –
Bolted the dash in – but the dash now (although not damaged and in good condition) looks old compared to the rest.
I am hoping that there is a quick fix to freshen up the dash – otherwise it will be coming out and being repainted.
