  1. sounds like good progress....but it didnt happen unless you can prove it with pics ;)

I had a go at getting my ignition barrel out ......and gave up after several hours!!!

I think mine might be different to yours, as apparently to release mine there is a hole in the back of the barrel housing at the back that you cant get to that you have to put a bent bit of wire into to release it ......I think I found the hole after fishing around for hours but I couldnt get it to budge!!!

so well done on getting yours out :)

  3. Not put much on the blog for a while - but now things are getting more interesting.
We have got everything in spray filler last night (apart from the sliding door and pop up)
The Van is now off its axel stands and is on its wheels (the old ones) for the first time since last Sept.
It does look a short wheel base – but looks compact.
My garage looks like it’s been snowing, filler dust is everywhere.
Could not get the spray filler into the gutters – so I painted it in – painting spray filler makes it go on very thick and I hope it’s done the job – it will need flatting down.
Got a load of 320s grit to flat all the camper down- and most of that has been done, used “liquid gold” for the little bits of pin holes etc. – the Upol Liquid gold is good stuff but it is quite hard compared to the Mipa spray fitter, so I go over that with 120s first and then finish of the whole lot with 320s and that gives a great finish.
I think next time I will try and find an easy sand stopper.
Ran out of spray filler last night – so we have used 6 L to do the whole van so far – inside under our side – but I will need to by 1.5L more to finish off the pop up roof and the sliding door.
So talking to Tom my Paint Man – it’s looking like it will take a few weeks to get the thing painted at his works in an oven, and I can’t wait – so I have decided to paint the van in the garage.
We going to make a big plastic tent and get some electric heaters in – if it all goes to Rat Sh%%t it may be we have to do a lot of flatting down, but I have done it before with Cellulose – and as it is a plain colour – no base and top coat – I think we will be fine (I hope).
The results we have got spraying the inside are good and that has been done with nothing – so I recon we will be good to go.
So here is a prediction – in paint by 11th Feb (not Inc the pop up).
That then gives me 7 weeks to finish it off!!!!! And I am away on holiday 2 weeks of that – so pressure on.
The thing on my mind at the moment is the head lining – looking at the price – it’s crazy – been on the net and the fabric with holes in it as quite cheap – but I need someone to stich it up – fortunately I took the old ones down with care and they can be used as a template – so my next mission is to find a trimmer who will make them up for me.

You need to get together with Shielsy, as you'd be able to knock out resto's in month between you!

Tremendous progress as usual, looking forward to seeing it in paint.

  6. Well – I did not realise how much I used the latebay – I was getting DTs form not being able to go online.

Good to see its back – I am now getting my Fix.

Anyhow – Result – headlining – The car Trimming man in Preston has had a look at the old ones (the front and the back ) and he can made them up using a Ford perforated cream one and after a few huffs and puffs he gave me a price - £65.00 – I agreed there and then. –(I do have a pop up so less material used).Delighted with that – just need to see the quality -

Ok – pained the top ½ of the van white last night and it’s looking good – made a plastic booth – and very little dust – so just a wiz off with some compound and it will be there.

Waiting until Monday to put the bottom colour (cream) on as we will have to mask up – I need to looks on the blogs to see where most folk paint to in the reveals – as I have painted the all the inside white.

  7. Err--------looks like the photo upload has changed

  8. Phase 2 is done – Painted – and looking fantastic – and it was done in my garage.
Here is a list of what has been used to do the whole lot – this is for inside and out.
Filler – 2 Tins of Upol Easy --- 2 Tins of Upol Fantastic – 1 tube of Upol Liquid Gold
Used the easy to do the deep bulk filling (and there was a lot) and the Fantastic over the top
I have left over ½ tin of Easy and most of the Liquid Gold – the liquid gold stopper is hard to sand down – go for easy sand type if possible
2k High Build Mipa 4 to 1 primer – 12 L – that was used inside – under and on all body – should have got normal primer for inside and underneath to save a bit of cash – I reckon that for the body we used 3 to 4 Lt – but we did do 2 coats – this is a outstanding product.
Stone chip – 12 no – this did the underside and inside the whole of the van – and the roof areas – mine has a pop up.
Paint – Mipa 2k - 10 Lt total –5 l for the inside and the underneath and all inner doors/boot etc. – 4 l for the upper outer and pop up (I have not done the pop up yet but have 1 l left to do it) and 3 L for the bottom outer colour – have about ½ l left.
We have put a lot of paint on the van – the outside has had 4 coats – but looks nice and deep – I reckon that you could save on paint – It was mixed 2 to 1 with rapid activator and 10% thinners
On the top coat side we sprayed 2 coats then left to dry – flatted with 600s and then put on 2 more coats- and that has given a great finish.
So next – I will wizz the doors on and tomorrow my mates are helping put the engine in.
So Phase 3 (the best bit) is now on its way

  14. That's a real nice shine bit of machine mopping and it will look like glass, can't wait for you to finish it then if I see you at a show I can get a good look around it.

  15. Nice job on the paint dude just be carefull with rubbing compound on contours and the edges of panels because the paint is thinner there

Looking good Marc, and really helpful post above detailing the quantities of paint used.

  18. Today was a mile stone - engine and gearbox is in:) had a bit of help from my mates -
Put the gear box in first then the engine, and it mated up v easy. Will post some pics Monday of it in situ.
Top tips for putting engine in - dont put the rubber engine mount on the cross bar - they get in the way.
I went and got a bendy ratchet 17mm spanner that did that horrid nut on top (the one that is on the end of the D bolt)- it took me 20 second to do - will post pic of the ratchet as well Monday.
Down side was the quite exhaust i got is rubbish - its not bent right and the engine cross member would not go in - so had to undo the exhaust - do i re bend it or do i send it back
why do they make stuff that wont fit - it costs them money and us time sorting it all out -
Any how all the big hard work stuff is out of the way.
Next to get it running - may be 2 weeks from now - loads still do do

  19. Oh yes -paint cost (everything)---------------------------------------------------------with all sand paper -stone chip-seam sealer- thinners -tack cloths - plastic sheeting, masking tape- pre clean etc etc etc etc etc etc
    £680.00 inc vat
Not cheap - but it has got plenty of paint on it!!!! and i have 8 lt of quality thinners left to drink when i turn into a alcoholic - i wonder if it matures with age? or should i drink it now?
Any one got tasting notes on a fine Dec 2012 thinners?
Looking at Krugers picture above hes been on it for a while- i wonder if he has fire proof curtains?
