Spoke to a few people today and turns out cam bearing may need a little fettling so will press on with that. Got quoted £80 to ream four little end bushes. My arse I am paying that. Phoned a friend an dropped it with him and a local drilling and piling company. Said pick it up tomorrow. The worshop he manages builds massive piling rigs worth hundreds of thousands. A good friend to have! On the flip side I got 5 5/16 unf bolts for the cam for 90p from a shop called Nuts
Were the cam bearings made by KS (Kolbenschmit)? I've sent 2 sets back as the cam wouldn't fit on the thrust bearing, and the oil holes looked pretty poor
No Silver line but I've sorted it Read a few bits about tight cam bearings used the old cam a hammer and some 400 grit emery and a surface plate
Turned the heads down on new cam bolts to miss oil pump. Opened up holes in cam gear and trial fitted the lot
Read somewhere that Cam lube has got a very fine abrasive in to help bed the cam and lobes together - so should never be used on bearings...
Stalled at this point as I am waiting for conrods back with new little ends reamed I've done all the other bits your supposed to do with the engine out. I want to get finished now get rolling again
That's what I said when It was abandoned in an old stable at a school. Got loads of other bits with it. Motor needed fixing but that's all. It is very handy
Bloody hell we just gave away a Colchester Chipmaster which needed new headstock bearings BTW good thread @Borninabug
I've got one of those now thanks to @oscar The colchester isn't a necessity, but sometimes a lathe a bit bigger than my myford would be handy!!
The Bridgeport is same as ours at work, right down to the digital readout! Remind me, tomorrow, to pop you a link up to a place which does equipment such as lathes, millers etc, may be of use!
Cheers Just need to get the DRO and cross feed sorted, as they currently don't work!! But I'm loving having it up and running...
Doesn't look like it has cross feed on it ? I see you are using a 3 phase converter .... Any thing you need for it ? ...we have a box full of the quill springs and a few Autolok chucks possible going begging ..plus a few other things .....
