It is starting to add up! But it’s all relative ain’t it? I mean I could buy a modern box on wheels on the never never that drops in value like a stone and has no charm (or bright yellow gayness!)

Many thanks! I cant take credit for the bodywork or engine rebuild only the disasembly and reassembly. My Bentley manual helps loads. Plus I’m a fussy b*stard! The main thing is that it keeps me occupied and out of the pub!

And the router makes an easy job of the cut outs but it’s scary! A97F4989-A078-443E-997E-CA01F47C9E72.jpeg

So on to the cooler unit! I’ve stripped it down and I’d say there has been something nasty lurking underneath! The drain for the cool box must have been leaking. Anyway the hardboard backing and ply base have seen better days so time for new timber.

While I’m waiting for the varnish to dry i get on with the interior panels. They have all had a couple of coats of varnish to protect them. So a bit of recycled plastic pop bottle insulation and they are on. Starting to get the feeling we could be using the bus this year! Fingers crossed (that’s the kiss of death!) 83F34DDC-262B-40BC-9651-2D86B5E07CB6.jpeg 99DEC58E-D0F3-4FEE-AB42-FDED2E13E97F.jpeg 9AD301BD-4C58-4179-B3CE-35448DF4C3B2.jpeg 0EAB5F37-5205-4643-B727-AB1E7235936F.jpeg

Ok so the varnish has dried on the cooler and Mrs S has cleaned up the insert really well. So out with the glue and a bit of head scratching to remember how it all goes together! 6DF6376E-203C-4157-A510-8EBA60B2193D.jpeg

In between varnishing and sanding and glueing I have a go at the R&R hinges! I’m not sure powder coating will be successful due to the shape etc. The abrasive wheel on the drill sorts out the chips and scratches while a few coats of primer and bullMarmite black makes them a bit prettier 08355F78-1995-4386-A14F-7256BCAD0E0B.jpeg 669586E9-1833-43C3-A884-617A9687C440.jpeg 9C8F8697-2CEB-4DF8-B260-72B4DADA0F52.jpeg

Yeah, it’s a September ‘58 swedish sedan deluxe, been of the road since 1976! Needs minimal welding and Then painting. It’s garnet red, so will look lovely!
I’ve had it a while but other projects keep jumping the queue! When I find the og rear wing that is missing I’ll probably start on the body...

So was meant to have most of the week off to crack on but the phone hasn’t stopped with stupid call outs and silly little jobs which basically put paid to that! It’s hard being self employed to manage time off or holidays so when this camper is finished I’m going to change my mobile number, or leave it at home!!

So the weekend is here and I can continue!!
On with the cool box. Powder coated frame is trial fitted but the cool box needs a slight bit of packing for the lid to seal ok. The hinge panel also needs laminate fitting. 9F661D4D-2174-433D-B6BF-3EE35BBC0C34.jpeg 58358B6D-DB4A-44CE-AF0E-1334C3A7CDBE.jpeg E3C00D93-185A-4E66-B9B1-8B3BE337D9C7.jpeg

Need to find a piano hinge and get the router out to get the knock on trim fitted to the LHS door that I had to make from scratch.

Also on the lookout for the pop top aperture trim. Doesn’t look like it is available so @davidoft has maybe got a used one lurking. I have been speaking to a manufacturer about reproducing it so I’ll keep you posted!

  20. Looking great!
