More laminate and varnish going on...

The big and small pop top bed bases were in a pretty poor state and covered in glue from the awful fablon white headliner so we decided to use a new bit of 18mm ply and a few coats of varnish.

The kitchen unit is by far the most complicated to do. ive been 2 whole days on it so far and I'm not sure that I'm halfway there yet!

That's the new kitchen hinged top on the beer crates. its cut from a sheet of 18mm best ply.

biggest news is that ive driven it out of the garage after a Austin powers style 68 point turn! first time under its own steam in our ownership so a big step! Engine starts on the button and sounds A mazing! I wanted to get it outside so I could lift the roof and fit the new canvas. What an absolute bassstard of a job, and one I hope I wont be repeating anytime soon! I was so fed up I didn't even take a finished photo. I just drove it back in the garage and opened a few beers!

ive restored the heating fan to find it doesn't fit! I didn't realise there were different types of mounting bracket. the hole don't line up on mine..

I'm not a massive fan of the sisal mats that we fitted as they don't finish well along the wheelarch. so have fitted some repro rubber mats from Wolfsburg west underneath.

and bought a interior panel set from NLA VW. I could only fit the tailgate panel tho..

and finally...other progress in other shed....

Thanks Rob, still a bit to do yet! After I’ve finished the cabrio I’m gonna start on the ‘58 bug for the missus... just got to find a genuine rear wing. I’ve been looking for over 5 years!

If I had more space I’d buy more projects!!! In fact I’ve spotted something I quite fancy!

Thanks mork! Can’t wait to get them finished, it’s been to long without an aircooled on the road!

Oohhh! I love a 914! Is it a project or ready to go? We need pictures! I’ve always had a dream of owning every aircooled model but space and nowadays the rising prices means it’s just a dream but I really do want a split panel van to use for work on sunny days. The prices they fetch has always kept them just out of reach! The search led me to a local stash of splitties but of the 2 panels that he had there, one was an ultra rare, immaculate, twin slider rhd with a massive price tag and a 75 fleetline which was very rough. He also had a rhd 59 so23! Now this would be beautiful finished but it is missing so many parts and the bodywork although mainly rust free needs lots of work! Tempting tho!

A few bits need powder coating for the Westy units so I'm taking some of the eberspacher BA6 parts IMG_4554.JPG to be media blasted too

IMG_4566.JPG So back from an amazing Stanford Hall and nursing sunburn! What a great show, we really will make an effort to camp there next year when our camper is finished so we can enjoy more than a few hours there.

With refreshed enthusiasm I've got chilli back outside to fit the pop top bed base
