My desire is not so great as that. If I can't obtain something that bolts straight on I won't bother. I might not even like it.
ok so you probably need t25 syncro wheels if you can find some. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-16-Syn...391358?hash=item3f62d9f6fe:g:D-sAAOSwJkJWkRvN
6Jx14 stock steel wheels, off of T3 syncros. Fit straight on have them on my single cab, the hubcaps are the same, and if you run a 205/215 14 C tyre on it it will be just as tall or even taller than a 15" with a 195 70 15.
I have a 16" syncro crew cab, and i think that if you put 16" steels on a bay you will have to fit low profile tyres, so gaining in size with the steel but then losing by having to put low tyres on. The 14 lets you fit a nice tall tyre. 14" tyres are cheaper than 16" and 14" steels are cheaper than 16"s
Anything vag later than a bay in 5x112 will have a centre bore too small for the fronts unfortunately. So Passat, t4, caddy all need machining to fit the front hubs. If you want cheap steels in 15 with a centre bore that'll fit without machining look at c or e class merc (w202 or w210) these are6.5 x15 with ET 37 so they'll fit fine. Merc bolts though generally are m12 so you might need to run a drill through them to open up the stud holes a bit. These are big heavy cars so they should be load rated high enough. A 195 70 15 would give you pretty close rolling radius and lots of choice in that size with suitable load rating (mich agilis, hankook ra08 commercial tyrs) - put these on the front to keep your speedo accurate and a 195 80 15 on the rear will give you +5% gearing. Commercial rated hankooks avail in that size too.
Just to add -your hubcaps obviously won't fit and there's no way of knowing if your studs are long enough until you do a trial fit. Do you know anyone with a merc you could borrow a wheel off?
I put 15 inch T4 wheels on the back of mine.... at a glance they look identical to the 14 inch fronts (although I dont have hubcaps). With 195 / 80 / 15 tyres on it will sit at 70 all day on a 3 rib box (3700 rpm)
The teles on the fish are 16s and run 205s.... About right on the front... rears could accommodate a 235 as long as you've got the offset
205 is not wide... Stock is 195, 205 is 10mm wider (give or take, depending on profile) My ref to the 235, is that there is space for them...
This is what I'm looking at doing but with merc alloys. @top banana racing has them and I think @Woodster had merc wheels on his bay too.
