Your working day. What's it like?

  1. Get into work for 7, on a good day ill leave at 3, on a bad day hopefully before the following day!

When all is calm around me and people wonder what it is I actually do..then my job is done. When chaos and mess are all around me, its time to pull my finger out and crack on...

Consider me Baldrick...with a cunning plan thats about to hatch...

  2. Fall out of bed at 07.30.
    Arrive at work at 08.00.
Sort out problems from night shift, organise next 24 hours running.
Listen to endless whining from employees about everything from pay to boils on their arse.
Listen to endless whining from my employer about everything from my pay to the boils on his arse.
Listen to endless whining from suppliers about everything from them being paid to boils on their arse.
Listen to endless whining from customers about everything from them not paying to boils on their arse.
Listen to endless whining from contractors that they've got boils from sitting on their arse.
    Go home.
    Drink.
    Come on here.

  5. Ah I see it's a break down of your day.
    Ok.
Up at 6 kiss wife goodbye. Do brekkie for Thomas my 6 year old. Get him dressed for school. Have a cuppa and make my sarnies.
7 drop Thomas off at friends house who takes him to school.
Then drive to Aylesbury for work.
Work can be anything from cnc milling setup/programming, wire eroding, surface grinding, but mainly it's electrode design and cnc programming for these 'trodes'.
2 fifteen minute breaks through the day then head home at 5. Get home at 5.45 and play with Thomas or do whatever the wife tells me to.
    Bath.
    Bed.
I fit in a good amount of TLB during the day.
    Friday afternoons/evenings can be different.

Sometimes up and out as early as 5.0am and can be out till the very early hours ...very long days and lots of driving all over the country as a subcontracting fire alarm engineer...

Worst part of the job is the driving ..very short fuse nowadays with little or no patience for bad drivers , it's almost worth getting up at stupid o'clock to miss the traffic..

  13. I work for a magazine so every day is different, which suits me. Loads of forward planning and info gathering, lots of lively sparring about what goes in, commissioning photography, watching the graphic designers do their magic, trying to get the words right, trying to kill the advertising manager... And endless effing meetings. Budgets, objectives, FSA compliance, HR issues, digital strategies, marketing strategies, strategy strategies. Zzzzz. That's the worst bit.
But every day is the same as well. Up at 7, alternate tea making mornings with 'im indoors, wake up son - who is mercifully good at getting up - school bus at 7.50, to my mum's for a cuppa and chat around 8.20 then in work by 9. Try to have a lunch break and leave at five but rarely make it. Evenings are helping/cajoling with homework, cooking supper, bit of TV, bit of TLB, lot of merlot.
I've got a dream job I know and I'm very lucky.
Still want to do something else though. Itchy feet and never satisfied! Really want to do my own publication but the financial risks are huge and the margins tiny.
If I'd been born a bloke I'd like to have been a builder. Wd love to build my own house. It's got to be the ultimate thing a human can do.
Weekends I tinker with the van in a very amateurish but happy way and dream of just taking off.... One day, when they find me out at work, I will.

  14. Sounds super!

  16. I get up when I want, except on Wednesdays when I get rudely awakened by the dustmen.
I put my trousers on, have a cup of tea and I think about leaving the house.
I feed the pigeons, I sometimes feed the sparrows too it gives me a sense of enormous well being.
And then I'm happy for the rest of the day, safe in the knowledge there will always be a bit of my heart devoted to it.
