I write firmware for marine EPIRBS and other distress beacons, using ARM processors, also I write the programming and label printing software on Windows for those beacons. As a part of my work I have once laid on my back wearing a lifejacket in the middle of a playing field wearing an aviation personal distress beacon, pretending to be a downed airman .This was so they could measure the transmitted signal... I remember looking up at the buzzard circling above and wondering if they were interested in me.. The reason I was there is because my bus has a mains inverter to power the test gear we were using.
I try to get the big, complex corporate i work for to see sense and play nicely. I am not feeling too successful today. Thinking of jacking it all in.
Everyone that's unfortunate enough to have a stressful (good or bad) job, what's your way of dealing with it. Mine is now having lots of holidays and weekends away, what's yours?
.......and then there's me day job Home from nightshift at 0530, take dog to park, get kids up and ready and to school, back for breakfast, do some combi jobs, take dog to park, have dinner, spend some time on the throne, collect youngest from preschool, then off in combi to collect oldest from school then straight to swimming pool for his lesson, home get tea ready, clean house while Mrs wombat puts pirates to bed, maybe I'll get to bed myself at some point
6.30 wake up and watch tv 8.00 get up 9.00 get to work do work stuff. It varies day to day, today for example, I cut out a badly repaired a pillar lower section, made as section of the panel the front edge of the cab floor attaches to. Then stripped down and rebuilt a pair of cab doors with new 1/4 lights, collected a customers van ready for tomorrow, kept our office helper busy, made lunch, answered the phone, etc etc have lunch anytime between 12 and 2.30 depending on what we've got in and how disoganised we are 5.00 official home time, however we usually get out late, (I don't mind) most evenings I stick the telly onto quest and check if anything exciting has happend on the interwebs. It usually hasn't
My working day starts at varying times ( variable shift pattern ) and therefore ends at varying different times from 4pm to 3am or 7am if on nights. The shift is largely stressful and mentally exhausting, frustrating and between 9 and 10 hours long. Work is constant with the only downtime being a refreshment break for an hour.
