Does seem to be the most common failure, likely due to un-lubed spindles. They'll all pack up eventually, given the beating they take.
Thanks for the info on how to get at the mechanism, here we go, this ain't no good.... I presume the spindle has ripped out of the centre of the nylon wheel? Contact made with snotty for the fitting kit, and I'll order the eBay motor before he runs out!
Yes, it has. If you take the backplate off the motor, you'll find a lonely nylon cog rattling around in there
Got the mechanism all plugged in and installed. Used longer screws than the little originals to hold the new snotty bracket in place - i had two that were much longer and fitted perfectly in my stash so that was quite lucky, especially as i'd dropped one of the originals down the totem .. Just need to put the wiper arms back on after work and put the glove box in and i'm done. thanks @snotty and @Mark Darby for doing the research on this
It is. Couple of hour's work for a woman of your superior mechanical skills And (assuming I've got my wiring correct), you'll have intermittent wipe. Your wipers will be the talk of Fordingbridge
Best to stuff a rag down the totem pole, or you'll be picking screws out of the heating system. The motor screws are pretty soft and done up quite tight - use your best screwdriver! M4 x 10mm if you do mess them up. Surprised you needed spacers. My motor went straight in. A mystery.
After watching this thread, becoming very jealous of people with wipers that have more than one speed and even some mentioning the word " intermittent " . My wipers work, and the mechanical parts appear free and in good condition. Will this electronic wizardry that is spoken of improve my speed setting option, or should I be looking elsewhere for the problem?
No idea about your lack of two speeds, but if you decide a new motor might help, Do It! Even I managed to get one installed without swearing too much more than normal
