  2. I used to like Stonor part, Vanfest and Stanford hall. Stonor used to be £3 , Stanford hall the same and Vanfest (when it was the T2OC run) was a tenner and if you helped the scouts on the gate you got yer money back.

I know you’re old but I’m not sure even you went camping when splitties were new ;)

the difference partly now is that Some people want A more Refined camping experience , for those people the camp sites have to offer nicer facilities, more cleaners , gardeners etc, fir people who want to poop in a frying pan there are other types of camping , I think there different requirements and priced accordingly

I’m not saying I mind it being more expensive, just that 15 years ago £65 would have got you 3 nights!

I know but you probably got paid 30% less 15 years ago , so it’s really the same price ?

Your maths is out. Doug's wages haven't trippled in 15 years...but I bet the camp site facilities have improved.

Cheap shows are small shows. As soon as one gets to a certain size the organisers have to jump through many hoops of traffic control, insurance, councils, police, medical stand by etc and it's a whole new game.

    Day

Vw shows are not providing the same facilities as camp sites.

And the busses that We take there make the show.

Personally I've been to one. They're not for me and regardless of cost I'd rather go camping somewhere nice, that's what I got mine for. :)

  9. This. Pay to stand in a muddy field surrounded by overpriced tat - no thanks.

When you compare it to taking a family of 4 out to say, an English Heritage Tourist attraction or similar for a day, a Vw show is very reasonable I suppose.

I see your 1 and give you another. I've been to 2.
Both were the same barring location: Same tat stalls. Same trailer queen buses. Same sad b@stards polishing their tyres and exhausts. etc etc
    Never again.

    I wouldn't do that either.

  13. Talking of shows - I see that the August Tatton Park VW show is now cancelled for this year - @Zebedee Martin organised our TLB stand there for the last few years - only £11 per person to show your bus.

It was just an example of a days entertainment really. And I am not sure how much a days worth of coke and hookers costs these days.

  15. Many small shows struggle to cover costs and are run by volunteers from local vdub clubs.
My local dubodyssey show charges than it would cost you for a weekends camping.
It's great value and not organised to make someone rich.

Big shows provide more expensive entertainment etc and the tickets cost more to cover this.
I'm sure a few promoters of the larger shows have made a few quid, and im sure many promoters have been burnt!

  16. Bugjam was something like £70 per vehicle last year, and apart from poor weather, was very good. We had 8 of us there in three VWs, £210 for the weekend, £26.25pp

Just remembered another which was ok as I got in free for doing a TLB line up and we had our own field to camp in. Free was about the right price.
