Joined in 2012, found this forum while searching for parts for 'Dan's Bus' when it was away on resto. I found the forum a mine of useful tips, and a bunch of nice people. Tony
Ok anybody on here remember RAMVA ( which stood for rec.alt.motoring.VW.aircooled). This was a VW chat group in the 90's. I got a beetle in 1994, then a camper the next year. Later I went to JK. It says I joined here in 2011 though it seems earlier to me. JK was always crashing, and they eventually drove everybody away when you had to log in every time to post. I guess they must have wanted this.
Nov 2014 Mrs ST found the site for me as we had bought our bay 18m ealier. I had sent it for a paint job with a bodyshop guy who did most of my families dings etc. He quoted me just £1000 to paint it - I almost bit his arm off as his work is excellent - unfortunately after 12m nothing had happend & I was going down to his unit to do bits to the interior- take glass out etc. when I found him crying & having a mini breakdownin the corner of his shop??? I think it was the orange that broke him!! This was the summer of 2013. Mrs ST is the queen of all things internet so found us a restoman quite local who was reasonable at £6/7k for welding - £12k & most of my own time later we have a bay insured at £25k. I have met some nice people, started 2 new careers & most of all I am in a happier place! I like this site for value for money on the parts sale side of things, the technical advice & the bloody good (mostly funny) banter.
It has me down as 2011 on here because after the big data crash it took me a while to re-register but... I joined just after Hailfrank and Fish in whatever year that was.... 2008? 2009? not sure as everything from 2007 to about 2010 is a bit vague as I was having a good time... a lot!
My first forum was VWT2OC...... That didn't last long.... My membership that is. That forum may still be going for all I know
Same here. Except I needed help. Tried a couple of other VW forums and found the people on here friendlier. Well, just as bad really, but more subtle
I joined the type 2 owners club in 2005ish before I bought the camper in 2006. Their site wasn't much cop but I kept reading about late bay members, probably in volksworld, so joined up around 2009/10. Check in almost every day. Good people and great advice.
This /\ Used to enjoy the JK forum when it was busy. Was a late arrival here really, but glad I joined up.
After I got the van in 2010 I went to Dubfreezde and was advised by Gadget Boy to find Earlybay.com I've got a crossover but at the time I thought it was an early. From them I heard about TLB and now I don't bother with any other forums.
I liked the fact that JK seemed to be all types of campers. Especially as I had T2, T3 and T4 while I was on there
Jan 2013 I joined , it was Bertiebot that told me about it . Just liked all the help you get on the tech side and the sarcastic humour . Techenders is a good meet to know fellow members , and we all seem to get on well like a bus on fire .
I agree it did cater for all at first then to my perception it seemed to focus predominately on the T3/4 . Yes it was probably down those owners interactions on the forum that killed it for me. The logging in procedure also became a big turn off too.
I used to be an 80lb weakling, girls kicked sand in my face and dogs peed on me. Then I found this forum. I am now a healthy 15st bronzed bodybuilder, women find me irresistable and I recently taught Superman how to fly! I am so Latebayforum dot com! PS that's not actually true. I joind in July 2014 because I was just about to pick up a camper and thought it would be a good idea to get onto a forum with so many acclaimed experts on it. Liked the light hearted banter and the swear filter!
