  1. hi there
there seems to be divided opinion in why I should /shouldn't mount my spare wheel on the front.....
any reason why / why not?
    saves space!

  2. On the back - the only option

    Get a poll up :)

  3. Mine on front panel, reason(s)? a> space b>i like it"s "look" c>there is as you have no doubt noticed , no bonnet on a camper so therefore , in r.t.a. ,no "crush " zone protection, personally, as my very beautiful wife now my very beautiful x wife divorced me , i obviously have no travelling "AIR BAG , so, my spare takes the place of.......

  4. Thought the deformation panel on the bumper was meant to take the energy and a spare wheel on front stopped this and made it more dangerous in a head on?

  5. If someone made a decent swing away spare wheel carrier for the rear at not too silly a price it would be Awesome.

The main reason that folks don't like on the front is that it has the potential to dent the panel, its a relatively thin bit of steel and a fair bit of weight, I believe i read somewhere that VW weren't that happy when westafalia decided to mount it there (i may have just made that up though) However its been done to 1000's of buses and its your bus, so if you like it and want to fit there do it.

  6. I have a wheel on the front and it is mounted using the bracket which also goes down to the bumper. In my opinion this takes some of the weight away from the front panel and so should in theory prevent it from deforming.

I like it up front :)

  7. Both my busses had them on the front it I took it off the van looks much better without
Also if you do have a front ender it will push the heater pipe into your legs.

  8. they look prettier without i think... molly had 1 when i got her but decided not to put it back on... just personal preference i think...if you like it, do it :))

  9. We don't have one, i'm tempted to mount one, because any extra metal between me and someone else is a good thing...however, I don't wanna ruin the front by doing so.

  12. Ours is on the front and when I went to take it off I found it had dented the front panel. So I put it back on.

  18. Don't like the front wheel (Sally does), but it hides the repro front panel on my crossover, one day ill get rid of it. Or maybe I'll carry a toolkit and jack so can actually use it!

  20. VW designed them to have the wheel in the boot. Takes up room which is why the convertors moved them out. That way you can have a full width bed. Of course you could always take out the wheel and store it underneath overnight, but that's a fad everytime you set off from camp. Mine's on the front. Does not loook as good, but its staying there as I can't be bothered to repair the front panel. No damage but a lot of holes to fill in!
