  2. I'm resurrecting this thread as I'm looking to replace all the 42 year old crumbling foam in my full width bed. The original blue plaid covers seem easy enough to remove, replace the foam and fir the covers back on, but i'm not sure which foam thickness to go for. The existing foam has gone quite thin so not sure what thickness it originally was - but i think 3"? Has anyone replaced their foam and kept their existing covers, if so, is 3" correct?

  3. i bet @oscar will testing his foam out on his new bed tonight :D

  4. 4 inch

  5. Big inch for me

  6. Question: Are the covers gussetted? If so measure the depth of the gusset, this will give you the foam thickness you require to adequately fill the covers. Buy foams half inch larger all round (not thickness) to give a plump fit. For comfort you want at least 4" foams, either a green or blue, medium to hard.
Without going into the hundreds of grades of foams the ones above should be adequate for your needs. If you want memory foam get a 3" foam with a 1" memory foam topper as memory foam is too soft on its own. :)

  7. Thanks @SweeneyTodd , the covers are gusseted. On the seat the cover wraps over the foam, over the wooden base of the seat and is stapled underneath. Measuring the gusset from the top of the wood it looks like I can only get a thickness of 3" in there. I'm keen to keep the original covers as I'm planning on keeping the camper as original as I can, so maybe I'll have to go for a 3" foam and get an extra memory foam topper to take in the van with us...
