Upgrades to improve MPG

  1. I've got a mate fitting turbo version in his split screen panel van. I'm watching with interest.

  2. We were up at Fellows a few weeks ago and Moons' and Baydreams' buses were being worked on. Ours is also going in for an EJ20. They look so small once installed.

  3. I have had my 1641 rolling roaded with perfect fuelling and the very best it has given is 24.9 mpg. That was on a trip to Anglesey and back from manchester. with all the gear and the 3 of us. driving at 55 - 60 max. just chillout, sit back, go slow and enjoy. The garage who set up my bay said that those figures are brilliant for a 1641 bay.

as above about the scooby motor but how long will it take to get your money back on fuel? I would do it however if I suddenly came into loads of cash. 130bhp sounds cool.

  5. don't see how you'd get more than 30mpg out of a scooby motor unless you're changing the box for a 5 speed.... and even then scooby motors are notoriously bad for their mpg anyway!!

official figures for the legacy are around 29mpg...

  6. Yup they are fuel monsters for a modern engine

Sound lovely though and more power than an aircooled equivelant

If i was going watercooled in the bus id want a tdi engine with bags of torque

However ive not seen an underslung radiator set up that will come with the extra heat from a diesel on a long run and using the bus on muddy farm tracks the radiator would be blocked in next to no time

  9. I just check my milage from the last fill up £60 and I had 210 miles from a full tank, thats a standard solex 34 carb on a 1641 engine :'(

  10. Just back from 10 days in north yorkshire and I got 21mpg on the way there. I've got a type 4 engine with a single webber, and that was with a fully loaded full length roof rack and all the kit we have inside the van+ wife and child. I'm pretty pleased with that.
