Yes I did leave it "open" for a few days too. I also removed the coil HT lead and cranked it for 30 secs with the new oil. Not sure why Mike thinks my bearings are toast?
Are you using and aftermarket sender, Mark, or VW's original? I only ask because, as far as I know, the pressure switch on the aftermarket sender, usually the senders that have both the guage terminal and the switch, marked G and K are set to come on at a higher pressure than VW's own.
