I'm sure I read something recently about anti-drainback valves or the like. Are these Mann/Meyle filters from Machine7 et al ok?

  3. I always use the Mann filters from GSF on my stock 2 litre:thumbsup:

  4. It’s the Mann W920/14 which has the anti drain back valve. I’ve been using them with no issues. W920/17 is the listed type 4 filter but it doesn’t have the drain back valve.

I use Mann W920/14 filters, W920/17 is the direct equivalent of the VW filter but the W920/14 has the same dimensions and includes an anti-drain back valve. Euro Car Parts are the cheapest I could find – but they won’t sell to me in Europe.:)

Call me dim, but I'm having trouble imagining how a type-4 filter could drain back.

You right, you only need them if the filter is mounted at an angle, as the type 4 filters are vertical it doesn't need one.

  9. Just whatever the usual places have in stock, even with my long trips South, I don't do enough mileage for me to be overly concerned and I change the oil every year anyway.

    Thanks all. I feel enlightened.

  11. Do you feel more…spiritual?

On my type 1 dangly head, I just stuff on the boggo Mann type 4 filter. Too much choice is a bad thing.

Thank you. I've just done the same and bought 6 for under £17 delivered! I first saw the £27 price tag on GSF and closed the window. M7 charge a tenner each and I was going to buy 2.

  19. Damn that's cheap. At 2.95 each Ive just ordered a bundle too :)
