  1. Not having a TV is a great thing .When we were working on our first house we done away with TV for 18 months and just got so much done and we're a lot more socialiable .How many time have we all briefly sat down with a cuppa for 5 minutes and put the tele on and watched crap for an hour .

I suspect it’s to keep people in order.

My life is crap, but hey at last these peoples lives are more crap than mine on the telly.

Reassured someone has it worse than me, I’ll not start to ask too many questions on why my life is crap….we can’t have that.

Interestingly, they keep the medical dramas off the ‘being worse than reality’ vibe.

If Casualty was real then you’d have people stuck in the waiting room for 8 hours before treatment….people on trolleys in corridors, people in ambulances in the loading bay having already waited 14 hours for the thing to arrive in the first place. Drunk and drug fuelled bellends fighting security and generally making peoples lives more miserable than sitting in pain on plastic chairs for hours on end.

Casualty is produced by civil servants at the end of the day…it’s far rosier than the reality.

The News ...yes . Well it seems to be the duty of the media to just and only just put on unpositivity ...they don't want put on anything that is positive . If they do there will be sly disparaging point just at the end of something positive .

Everyone’s life is crap, but other peoples lives are crapper. It just depends on how you look at things. Ultimately we are all dead one day, but at the moment we are upright and pink. It’s just what you do to see tomorrow, isn’t it?
    Happy New Year.

Telly is generally ok, but It was probably better when we only had 3 channels.

I belief our existence is hard….none of us are immune from health issues or things like death.

However, many peoples lives are enhanced by at least feeling ‘safe’. Be that the roof over your head, food on the table, not being assaulted when you go to the shops.

I should have used the word safe instead of crap.

True @Faust , but the commercial stations raison d'etre is profit, so would they really put on news that the views don't like...look at Fox news pushing Trumps agenda, fake but what they want...so it can only be that we Brits, amongst many, like bad news and gossip...curtain twitchers to the last

Edit because of something I just read and want to quote. " Nobody wants to see a picture of a well balanced person having a reasonable night out"

Could always get off of here, put a coat on and go for a nice walk to enjoy the simpler things in life like fresh rain on the leaves of trees, or just go and splash in some puddles.

Looking back on a lot of it, I’d say it was far far worse.

A captive audience fed class affirming propaganda…..usually posh people guessing what non posh people’s lives were like and writing shows aligned to their own prejudices or sexist, racist horse manure.

Obviously there were exceptions, but TV back then was mostly awful.

I’m in the garden with my dogs and it’s fizzing it down. I don’t watch stuff that would make me anxious.

Yeah…..I’m worried about Christmas and have no money for gifts but at least I’m not like Arthur Fowler and stealing from everyone else and ruining theirs.

My existence is safer than his. Or my crap existence is less crap than his.

Which is why i have never bought a news paper for at least 40 years . People buy papers of there choice because they wish to read material that rings to the tune to there political desire . and to which rag you choose has an obligation to keep the reader happy .....its a big money business .

I worked in newspapers (IT) for 7 years on and off.

A core stat they monitor is the relationship between headline and sales….it’s a balance between pandering to readership and upsetting advertisers.

As actual purchasers of newspapers are so low, their income is now from advertising, so the online stuff tends to be sensationalist articles with little or no impact on ordinary people….it’s all the size of Kim Kardashian’s arse which won’t offend people selling carpets or burgers.

Journalism is dead, the sort that holds people to account….it’s mostly cut and paste garbage written by kids watching celebrities instagram feeds

I used to think newspapers were wilfully misleading liars….now I suspect it’s a whole industry of people asleep at the wheel fighting over scraps.

In 2003 Trinity Mirrors share price was £76 a share, in 2008 it dipped to 6 Pence…..it usually cruises around 18p ish.

The money is nothing like it was. The people employed in it is nothing like it was.

  16. All those programme's may not be your cup of tea but all three inspire people to get out in the great outdoors and be creative , search for historical artifacts or their fortune . Alternatively you could watch the likes of Eastenders with people lounging about in a manky pub and get zero inspiration. No need to walk away from your explosive charge as it was a dud even before you lit the fuse .

  18. I realised that ! I used to be a fisherman so resisted taking the tempting bait . TV has its uses and maybe just the three channels from my distant youth was a good idea . Remember the TV show Why don't you ?
