I guess changes are made as people's viewing and listening opportunities change with the increase in streaming capabilities.
I consider the BBC great value for money, but I reserve the right to shout at the Telly from time to time :)

  2. Total licence fee income collected = £3,722million

Just £2.4billion of BBC's £5.1billion annual budget went on programmes

Remaining cash went on middle-managers, running its buildings and tea

Only £217million was spent on job of actually transmitting the programmes

  3. Matey of mine hasn`t had a TV or for that matter a license for the last 15 years or so .

He`s a great `messer` , always got something on the go and therefore usually busy welding , painting , fabricating etc etc ...
The TV license enforcement team have been disturbing him at least twice a year and he`s quite open about watching `catch-up` tv every now and again
on his computer , as well as youtube vids . They couldn`t touch him as it`s not terrestrial ...

Might be different now though ... Bugger

  4. Yes they have changed it now. You can watch YouTube without a license but if you watch any tv programs via YouTube you do. Including any streamed webcams.

  5. Agreed but think proving the offence would be more effort than it`s worth .

    :hattip:

  6. They would gladly waste the money chasing you though, as proven with your example of your friend.

  8. If they didn't pay for middle managers, buildings and tea. They wouldnt be able to produce the great programmes that they do.
Would you rather they made their programmes from a shed in Grimsby? (Other place names with grim in the title may be available).

  9. Incorrect I'm afraid. It has now changed to cover 'on demand' and 'catch up'.

  11. Ps. I agree if you don't watch any BBC stuff you shouldn't have to pay. But the only way that could be policed is if we allowed them to track everything we watch. Not sure anyone wants that.
Call it a fee to keep your viewing habits private.

  12. Don't watch TV, too much of a fidget. got given one a few years ago when my parents ditched their CRT one, and the kids got hooked on cbbs. Now they barely watch it, just the Simpsons And Big Bang theory. When they leave it's going, license is not much but when I see the news it's winds me up that I'm paying for it as it's just choc full of agenda pushing. Yeah right, Ken Livingstone is an anti -Semite etc etc, total wind up.

Why watch that when you've got the world of Internet?

The TV licence is a fee/tax which gives you the legal right to receive live broadcast tv but now from OP it covers a wider spectrum. The tv licence for as long as I can remember has not been for the right to watch bbc only as road (tax) fund licence gives you the right the right to use public highways and not a build/repair roads only fund/tax.

Channel 4 also gets part of the tv licence or is it channel 5 well which ever one was set up as a public service broadcaster with commercial fund raising rights as well.

I very much appreciate your continued contribution to keeping the bbc going.

I think it's all paid by advertising, except the ABC which is federally funded.

  17. I don't have a telly or a licence, I only watch xhamster and I'm pretty sure I don't need one for that.

So you pay through the back door, in one lump to the government.

  20. The BBC is great value, what they deliver for the money is amazing. You pay for Sky etc. and then have to watch ads as well.
