TV License

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by b0dyr0ck2006, May 13, 2016.

  1. The new regs have come out today over licensing and it appears that you now have to have a license if you stream content off iplayer. So I've been looking into the details and they have changed a fair bit. From what I can work out the TV License is compulsory if you use any broadcast receiving equipment, be it a tv, computer or any mobile devices regardless of provider or supplier. This includes all streaming devices such as Apple TV, Amazon Fire stick, chromecast etc.

Now it always used to be a license for and to pay for the BBC but now apparently it covers all broadcasting but the BBC takes the money.

They should just call it a TV tax and be done with it

Amazing documentaries, sport, news, drama on TV and web

In fact it's worth it for 6music alone!

Radio is free I believe. No licence needed for that.

  8. I don't watch any bbc content at all yet I'm forced to pay for a license. You get how many channels? 6? Now tv for example is £6 a month and you get so much more content.

Don't forget that they have also said this cost will raise every year too

Over bloated over staffed but it's brilliant, don't like it being compulsory but if you listen or watch its value for money. It would be better value if they didn't send ten reporters to every story

  10. Brilliant value for a wide range of programming. A public service broadcaster that is the envy of the world. I'm happy to pay my 'tax'. Better than letting the Rupert Murdochs of this world control the agenda.

  11. What's BBC? Is it like BBW? I don't mind paying for that.

And you don't ever use any bbc radio? Well, I don't use schools/nhs/dhss etc so can I be let off my other taxes?

  13. Hharruuuumph to that guy ... Couldn`t agree more .

I have Freeview and that`s it , i refuse to pay for entertainment - other than the Beeb - `coz most if the others are pretty rubbish to be honest ...

    :hattip:

  14. Now TV only charge £6 pm, but also get income from adverts. Making it viable for them.

BBC only get income from licence fee and selling 'content' abroad

  15. I'll ignore the tone of that and just respond, no I don't listen to any of the BBC radio stations although they are not included in the license fee. It should be a subscription service like pretty much all other broadcasting. If you choose not to use the BBC services then why should you pay?

Using schools, nhs and dhss as an example is completely irrelevant.

Why? They are all public services like the Beeb all other TVs is commercial.

  17. Couldn't agree more. Their content is so much better than anything sky or shy te v put on.

Unsure I'd prefer all the targeted advertising and interruptions all the time that commercial tv brings.

Remember utter skat like towie comes from targeted audience observation.

  19. How is the BBC a public service? It is a commercial entity that is here to generate profit. Perhaps a long time ago it was a public service, but it has moved on far from that now. Quite an old view really.

Using actual public services, you know like medical care or education, is a terrible comparison plus saying you don't use any of those services is just a complete fabrication
