How many starry nights did you spend learning chords, listening to hit song repeatedly until you could finally play it with confidence? Did your fingers bleed like Bryan Adams claimed in the hit Summer of ’69? When did you finally give up and set your guitar aside to gather dust and faded memories? You miss it don’t you? Admit it, you dreamed of standing in that stadium under the lights soaking in the adoration of millions! It’s ok, I did too! But we all grow up…right? Well, not totally and that’s why you should turn the lights up! It’s Get Out Your Guitar Day! History of Get Out Your Guitar Day The history of Get Out Your Guitar day is simply unable to be recorded. Ever since the first version of a guitar was created, man has desired to escape the mundane and take some time to dream. Bards and storytellers of old became the pop stars of today. All with the ability to make music and take us along on their adventures. Whether it is the heartache of relationships or the ringing anthems of those who seek for change, the music sweeps us up and gathers us along. Remember that joy that you had the first time someone heard you playing and recognized the song? Yeah, that is what today is about. That pure, sweet, joy in the moment. So run up to the attic or down into the basement and get that guitar out of hiding! I reckon I play pretty much every day. What I might do today is actually learn a new song in full
As we're away from home I guess I'll have to play the Eldest Unmarrieds 12 String Ovation as we're staying with her ( in our house ). Maybe I can get a Rickenbacker 12 String tomorrow. Ms .T won't notice it in our luggage, will she?
My son has a Ricky 330 we bought him for his 18th birthday. I'd have preferred the classic sunburst but he wanted a midnight blue one, the bloody philistine! It's a great guitar though. I'd love a 330/12 or 360/12. Well a man can dream can't he?
I bought myself a harmonica holder thinking it would be easy to strum and blow at the same time.......
I played one once in a music shop in Kingston ( on Thames, not Jamaica), I naturally had to play that riff
Well there's a surprise! There's a Rickenbacker 360/12C63 12-string Fireglo, George Harrison model for sale in a guitar shop not more than 15 or 20 minutes away from us.
Well, that's a sign isn't it if ever there was one. Mrs T is bound to be very understanding..... possibly
I always liked the romantic notion of being able to pick up a guitar and strum a bit of Joan Baez or Simon & Garfunkel whilst sitting on a beach at sunset, but sadly so did everyone else I knew and so I ended up with 4 strings rather than six. (Gathering dust in various locations around the house, unplayed for many years.....) Perhaps I'll give learning the Ukelele a really good try today instead.
Yeah, a President and a Verithin, both from around 1963/64. I was enthusiastic rather than talented, and so they've lain unplayed for 20 years. I should probably sell them, but I'm rather attached to my old dreams
Think Stuart Sutcliffe played a President didn't he? I say unless you absolutely have to sell, don't . Keep em and play em. I nearly bought a Verithin 6 string for a song back in the early 80s. Woulda coulda shoulda
He did indeed; and that was largely why I wanted one! Paul's violin Hofner never really appealed so much... and even back in the late 80s when I was playing and in a band, I couldn't have afforded one. I might just tune the Verithin up and have a little play around later....
