  4. Respect your pint of view but can you list these countries with lower corporation taxes? see below from FT, sorce ECD. if companies want to operate in the first world then..... Or perhaps its part of our repositioning. Low wage, low tax, pay for everything and expect nothing back Tory plan.

I think id rather look at the policies as the individuals delivering them can change. Apparently its acceptable for them all to be tired and forget things lol!

  5. Isn't the corporation tax issue that by raising it you create a disincentive to operate in the UK and then for those already established businesses they find ways to minimise liability so that actually you don't get the tax income you forecast. A question for all the self employed, in fact anybody really, if there proves to be a way of paying lower tax would you change your business practice to pay less ... ?

BTW is there still another week of this nonsense. Election fever has been replaced with election fatigue.

I'm looking forward to next Fridays post election thread, any suggestions for a subject line ....

  11. Spot on. I left a career of working for big companies to set up a business with a mate 6 years ago. We took enormous risk and remortgaged our houses but had the balls to do it. Part of the incentive was for a then kinder tax regime, and we now employ 6 people who are paid generously and have greater perks (pension contributions etc) than they would get in other companies in the same industry. Since then both dividend tax and corporation tax has increased to similar levels we would pay under PAYE. Both myself and my fellow director only take the same as we earned in other companies. Despite the contribution we make to the economy and employment however small, would we do it now? Probably not. Would we do it under a higher level of tax than now? Definitely not. Given that the post-industry economy is largely made up of smaller companies, this will have an impact on growth. No-one pays more tax than they are legally obliged to, but some parties assume business is big corporations and therefore corp tax must be increased.

Before you make assumptions (company director in south east), I have only not voted Labour once (so far), and was made an honorary member of the Kent NUM (who are no more) for collecting and delivering food parcels in 1984, one of my proudest things. Gets on my wick the assumptions and divisive north/south/have/have not/rich/poor categories bandied around, it really is not that simple. Cant wait for next Friday....

industry failed to keep up with world , cheap coal imports , cheap steel , british built cars out done by foreign cars
the list is endless its taken till now for companies to start fighting back but by now everything is foreign owned but now nissan cars are built in the uk , trains are built in the uk , hitachi and bombardier (canadian) and guess what the staff are happy and there,s no trouble with the unions - Scunthorpe british steel now in profit

cheap imports are subsidised by other countries to help keep their industries in business and grow. British Steel abandoned by the government then by the Indians as being unprofitable then a management buyout puts them in profit?
NCB was forced into a corner because Mrs T wanted them gone after they defeated the previous tory government.
The labour and union movement grew out of a need to force better working conditions. The coal industry was owned by private people who had a total disregard for their workforce which forced the government to nationalise it and bring in better working practise. Towards the end profitable pits were made to look unprofitable by unrealistic output quotas.

  15. Could you stop being rational and providing actual real facts please. It hinders the debate!

  16. Is this thread still going..?I thought we'd have all decided to vote Lib Dem by now...

  17. That's an interesting insight and I suppose you are a captive payer and not a multinational player who may over-sea their business. Doesn't if pee you off that you pay your dues whilst others avoid! I'm cards in and have been for many years now so I have no choices in how I pay tax and NI from my remuneration, but my business is me, there is no flexibility. I suppose that if you are taking a wage from your business and providing employment for others that all good and your the guys keeping the country afloat anyway to an extent but you do have an asset in the business itself I would assume that will pay out eventually. Hats of to you for taking the risk and making a fist of it. Not everyone is in the nice position of taking a moralistic approach to their choices! some choices are hard and fast business ones.

The unions were great for the workers and did a great job but they destroyed this country to such extent that the Labour pm had to go cap in hand to the imf
for a loan I worked for the government on the railway it was great night shift head down at 1 am , I worked for the privatised railway and we worked right till the day shift came on guess which one was best - the privatised railway

  19. Yes you are right, I do have an asset in the business which hopefully will be worth something in the future, but this will possibly replace the meagre pension I have that was screwed by Gordon Brown. Yes it does pee me off enormously to see the likes of Amazon, Starbucks etc pay virtually nothing in corp tax, but that's the system and the Government needs to change it, though Labour's sledgehammer approach is really just a continuation of Osborn's attempt to appease public opinion by taking a swipe at all businesses.
