Well it's all a total waste of time anyway isn't it . No one can get a proper word in before it all gets chaotic and start screeching like little children at a kids party when the E numbers start kicking in .

How memories fade it was a national strike but just as they were close to winning the notts miners broke the strike and went back to work ( barnsley fc fans still remind notts fans)
Scargill was scared to call a ballot as it would have bust the NUM cos they would have had to pay their members.
Didnt stop Scargill buying a large house out of his wage tho.
Just as Hillsbro has come out the facts of the strike and the army being used as extra police will come out.

  3. We heard you the first time. Memories dont fade as much as you think. Sooo much propaganda at the time leads to false memories i reckon.

  4. That's interesting what you said about the army. Years ago I worked with one of the nicest guys I've ever met, from Sheffield. He told me a story. At the time of the miners strike he was an ambulance driver. One day he was sent with his buddy to a picket as there was expected to be trouble. They were lined up near the police lines. He spotted his cousin in the police line. Nothing unusual about that you'd think. Except his cousin wasn't in the police. He was in the household caverlry or the coldstreams or some regiment like that. His cousin told him to F off when he came over to him and that he hadn't seen him. Although I had no reason to doubt my work colleague, I was a young man then and I've always thought he might have been pulling my leg. Now years later you've said that. So I guess not.

The Sun had a few false memories about Hillsbro aswell

  7. Not heard that before and ive never heard it fom a copper (who would actually know?) we moght never know as Amber Rudd kicked into touch the idea of an inquiry into the "battle of Orgreave. Apparently the truth costs too much but it was clear the police were used as an instrument of the state against its people.

Very emotive subject in these ere parts the strike but it wasnt as said above a national strike as there was no national ballot.

  8. New one to me about the use of the army. Must just have been in Yorks.
As for 'an instrument of the state', the Notts Miners were very grateful for the protection and the right to work.
Orgreave? I've only seen the TV coverage on the news so can't fully comment.

  9. Sorry i was referring to south yorks police at orgreave. I should have made that clear.

  10. Any chance you could stop repeat posting. Its a bit annoying!

There was supposed to be a peaceful march but the miners were hearded to orgreave then miners including old men and kids were charged at by police and police horses. I dont say some of what went on was good but that?

  13. No room for ambiguity on this subject even now!

Sorry misread your post no but lots of friends were there

  18. No :D

  19. Martin McGuinnes?

  20. That's the problem though. Emotive hearsay and rumours. I do struggle to believe that old men and kids were rounded up and cavalry charged for the fun of it even in the 80s. But hay, I wasn't there.
