Its all well and good the Petrol companies "bumping" the cost of fuel up the way they are doing but the question I have is why are there over 40 tankers laden with fuel berthed off the coast of Britain.

They are parked up on the petrol companies instruction, simply to create a so called shortage of fuel so the prices can be bumped up. Fact.

And why are the top bods telling us oil reserves are running out when surveys have been done globally and the general consensus is that there is enough oil left to see our lifetime out?
Its a bit like them closing all of the pits around us due to coal shortages, Annesley Pit had enough coal to last 150 years worth of mining!!

i do agree though public transport is a lottery depending on where you live, i did a bit of research on using the bus or train to work....bear in mind it's 8.8 miles to work but where i live although not "in the sticks" is only a half hour service bus wise and the train station is 4 miles away so if i did want to use public transport i would have to do this.
Walk 1/4 mile from house to bus stop, take 3 mile trip to rugeley bus station and either swap to another bus to hednesford then walk the last mile to work or from rugeley bus station walk the 1/4 mile to the train station and then train to hednesford and walk the last mile to work, all in all with connections and walking it will take me longer to use public transport than to cycle non stop at a steady 9mph.....i can ride at that speed and get to work in a hour or walk/bus and take longer!

  3. i converted my last late bay to tdi and it was a easyish conversion (i have done loads of engine conversions in the past though) and as pardox says the hardest part was working out the cooling system but when done was ace and the heaters were out of this world driving to work in a t shirt in the snow :D, it used to average 40mpg running about round town and going to work etc and even more on a run as long as you didnt go nuts i can see more owners going down this route so they can afford to keep using there vans as much as they like

yeah matey i'm thinking of the part ride part train option until i can bring myself to bike the full length, it shouldn't be too bad though i walk 6 miles a day so my fitness is improving anyway, just need the clocks to go forward so i can get home in the light so a month and it will be game on with the bike.

  7. I am looking for a new car, my Alfa 147 jtd does 43 to the gallon and I drive it like an Italian, I will fill it at least twice a week (£80 plus) and get 16 pence a mile from my employer a couple of months later.

Dudes, you need TDi power - I have to floor mine and drive at 85+ to get it below 50mpg.

The guys and gals on the beetle forum say that 23 is about average for an auto 2 litre, it's common knowledge for some reason the same engine in the golf etc does more mpg than the beetle, i guess it's mapped differently.

  14. I know a couple in their 50's, with matching A4 diesels. He gets 44mpg round town, she gets 36mpg. He drives really steady, changing up early, keeping the revs down. She says he drives like a fanny!

Which one do you think needed £1300 spending on it at Audi last friday, for some kind of de-coke and filter un-blocking?

I was going to get a rag-top one as a company car. I never use my car anyway so the misses uses it to get to work most days.
I looked into the cost in terms of tax liability and it was phenominal! Much more expensive than any other 2.0 due to the shocking emmissions!

  19. We have had our EOS for about 5 weeks now, Amanda is getting 23.4mpg. I would assume it has the same engine as Rick's Beetle, 2.0litre non-turbo. Ours is 150bhp manual.

probably do less with the roof down more often.

  20. im driving 720 miles a weekend cornwall to manchester and back and by driving at 65mph instead of 75mph i can get an extra 90-100 miles out of a tank in a 1.8 mazda 6
