The misery of unemployment?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by z4alfie, Jan 9, 2012.

  1. While I am very aware that the majority of the unemplyed are searching fruitlessly for work, Whilst I was working hard today my unemployed mate (facebooker 1) posted this on facebook and hacked me (Facebooker 2) off and so I felt compelled to object.

Facebooker 1. Just been to see The Iron Lady and I don't mind saying that I liked it quite a lot. I'm not sure why it's been given such poor reviews. Meryl's bleeding marvellous. (Also it only cost me £1.00 as I am an unemployed person, £1.00 people!)

    Facebooker 2. again
You have not answered my text from the other day. Is that because you were out getting free dental treatment or were you at the PDSA with the cats? Im sure you were'nt at Job Centre Plus. Surprising really as they let you use the phone for nowt.

  2. There is a difference between being unemployed and wanting to work and being a benefits scrounger with no intention of working. Unfortunately they get the same treatment. I have nothing against a job seeker getting a few quid off

  5. I hate scroungers.
Lets say person 1 had a good job in a factory but had no qualifications for say 20 years, next thing factory closed, then he's on the dole, then while looking for work I'd be happy knowing that person 1 was getting help off the state for say 6 mths then he got a job. I'd be happy with that.
But lets say person 2 left school & declares he can't find a job, how is it that he has a car, which is insured & taxed? How is he always *******ed, smokes 20 a day, yet his kids get loads of stuff for Christmas.
The whole family of person 2 go on holiday abroad, then the kids grow up & have their own kids with spouses & none of them have jobs, yet they all now have cars & dogs. How can they afford it all?
By the way Family 1 & 2 are real & live down the road. Person 2 & his family make me sick, they have a brand new car on spongeability too.

  6. By the way I'm 41 & have always had a job, when I closed my business in 2006 I decided to have 6 mths off to get my self together & organised, I tried to claim dole, they let me waste hrs down the job centre, then told me no. It turned out because I was self employed for more than 2 years I couldn't claim for 2 years. They knew that at the start yet the tossers still let me humiliate myself & waste my time going through the process!
In 2009 I was made redundant, I didn't bother claiming dole, luckily I found a new job after a week. I could have claimed 1 week but its so much hassle I thought sod it.
If you want a job, you will find one. ;)

  7. All these extra benefits should be abolished. Of course, there are a lot of people out there who genuinely can't find a job. I interviewed one yesterday. He hadn't worked for 3-years. Basically, he's been waiting for the right job to come up and hasn't minded living of benefits in the meantime. Putting myself in his shoes I thought 'I wouldn't have allowed myself to be on the dole for more than 1-month. I'd accept any job, keep my eyes out for a better one, or I'd have set my own business, doing whatever best had sprung to mind'. Anything. And, if for nothing else, as a matter of pride'. 3-years! There's no excuse for it. And for that reason, I won't be offering the job. I've spent a lot of time in my wife's home country. Over there, they don't have any welfare system. If you're out of work, that's your problem, you're on your own. There's an incentive for you. You'd be amazed how low employment is there. That's obviously because, when push comes to shove, people feel compelled to get off their backsides and find something.

  8. i have been made redundant a couple of times in my life time and can tell you at the moment i pay 700 quid a month in tax/ni, and know for a fact if i lost my job tomorrow i would get feck all.
but i would find work of some description. as i always have done in between jobs.
Job centre's are in my book joke centre's, all the jobs in there are filled 9 times out of 10,

  9. Has he NEVER worked ?

Has he NEVER paid any taxes or NI ?

If he has I don't see your gripe to be honest plus aren't you supposed to be his mate ?

If he is intentionally unemployed and has never contributed then you could be onto something.

  10. I was unemployed for about 3 months after being made redundant and it was the worst feeling I have ever had in my life ,I felt worthless ,I spent most of the days applying for jobs and contacting agencies and it worked ,I got a lowly paid office job which although I didnt want got me into a company and when the I.T vacancies came available I already had my foot in the door.
My friend who was a programmer was also made redundant but refused to take work that was so called below him - he's still unemployed.

  11. I spent some time in my youth unemployed. Thatcher closed Chatham dockyard and the engineering apprenticeship i was due to start was abolished. All i got was a 6mnth YTS. I cannot fathom why anyone would watch a film about that bitch. I despise her and everything she and the tories stand for. I await her demise with optimism and pray its a painful and miserable one. She is the only person in this world i feel this way about. I still remember and I will never forget or forgive what she did to the working classes and manufacturing in this country. No Future! remember that? Hateful woman.

  12. How does letting the unemployed watch movies for £1 encourage them to get off their harris?

  18. I really do speak to soon me :-[
Just had a massive group meeting at the Co-op in the main hall where due to the lower takings and competative market they are restucturing the whole of food I.S and there will be loads of redundancies - they announced about 5 or 6 that had already happened and the people had left (senior) .
    Bugger :(
We will know at the end of Febuary.

  19. They talk of unemployment soon hitting 2.75 million. I think there's a chance of it hitting 3 million by the end of the year. 2012 is going to be a rough time. I've heard too that emigration to Australia (Brits and Irish) is now surging, massively. I'm not surprised. They've got their problems there, like any country, but not anywhere near as bad as us. There seems to be no real shortage of work Down Under.
