Just use it malc and enjoy it :) maybe look at painting it over winter if you feel it needs it

  4. If you can get it done in time for the for summer and you don't miss out on using it, for £150 I'd go for it.

It needs a fair bit of prep, so I'd say roll with it like it is and give yourself a break.
I used to happily drive this little beauty around. :)

You worry too much what other people will think - maybe because things have changed and there are lots of shiney sorted buses about, where there used to be only a few amongst the scruffs.

  6. Do what you want to do, and what you think is right! Looks great as it is, but with all the work and stress you have been through, and being offered a very good price, presumeably for a good job (guessing you have already seen this persons work) than it definitely would have to be considered!

  7. I love they loved look , you know you use and dont have to worry about every little mark

  8. Thats only trubble with shiney, you get scratches n chips. Mines been done 12 years now but ive given it some elbow to. Yours looks cool malc ,but if you enjoy the polishing then go with what you want mate. Your the one that has ta be happy with it 8).

Dohh i'm none the wiser ,i like her as she is , Birdy has summed it up in one way its had lots of workand now needs to show it and zed makes a fair point the other way - it needs a lot of prep to get it reaaly nice , but most people are saying its ok get out and enjoy it :-

Thanks for the input everyone :)

  10. Don't go for a full respray - take the £150 offer and then enjoy .....

go with what you feel buddy, and by the sounds of it thats the look you have now. so much easier to maintain, and adds character.
the worn out look........ like its owner! ;)

  12. Nice bus - nice colour - I would go for the shiny bottom half at that sort of money - just easier to keep clean and event though mines a scabber I do like polishing it from time to time! However - its nice like it is!

  13. £150 worth of paintwork will add more than £150 in resale value of your bus if your worried about that sort of thing

Id say get it painted but not just yet use it some more first

Don't paint it without prep though or it'll look worse than it does now (not that it looks bad). Shiney only works on straight, shiney on wobbly is the pits.

  17. Hold back on the painting and for £150 your not going to get much of a job. Mates rates or not.

You could, if you wanted a shiny-er bus, t cut the whole thing and slap a good coating of dodo juice on it. That will bring the colour out and give it a bit of life again.

If you decide you want to paint it then it will need a fair bit of prep work first. Without you prepping it your looking at up to 3 or 4k for the whole job, with you doing the prep and stripping the whole bus down to a shell could drop the price to around the grand mark.

I'm doing it myself, A) so I can say I've done everything, B) I haven't got the money, C) I can always repair or colour change at a later date.

For what it's worth summer is coming so just use it, after all the agro you have, enjoy the bus, if then come the winter you still want to paint it then you won't be missing out on opportunists to use it.

  18. Malc, USE IT.

Then if you want to paint it, prep it yourself and get it done one winter when you're not likely to be using it. Best of both worlds.

I don't want to see you in a Volvo at Camperjam again this year. ;)

  19. I'd say that unless you're planning to show n shine it regularly, leave it as is. I like a shiny show bus but I prefer the ones that look like they're actually used.

As the previous two posters have said, summer's coming up, enjoy the fruits of your labour and if, at the end of the season, you decide it needs a shiny new coat to do it justice then you can get it done over the winter.

Malc, all I'm gonna say is stop thinking about things other than where your next trip is....

get on the road and enjoy, you spent enough time off the road sorting Rhubarb out, if you feel the need to do owt else, leave it till winter!
