  1. OMG. The wife says we might be allowed to get the ibuzz when it comes out. I do have to sell all my projects but I'm up for it.

  2. I’d really, really love one, but even if I sold everything I don’t think I could afford it.
My main concern with electric is the finite life with batteries. Manufacturers want you to keep buying new cars, but is your asset worthless with half life and beyond batteries or are you expected to lease and upgrade every 3 years. If there was a replacement battery scheme at the end of life, it would be more ecologically sound or you buy the car and lease the batteries like you can do with some evs.
I’ll keep my bay until we’re taxed off the road with fuel prices!

  3. By the time that becomes an issue, there are very likely going to be available 3rd party battery replacements, if not 1st party. One other thing that may help us out in the future, there is a massive 'Right to Repair' movement happening, which is thankfully starting to forcing manufacturers to support 3rd party repair centres by allowing them access to spare parts and other materiel, and not building them in the first place so they can't be repaired (like a lot of current phones and laptops).

You'll be forced off the road with electricity prices before then.

I was definitely interested in the ID Buzz, but I think the production model does not do justice to the wonderful looking prototype that was unveiled a couple years ago (do they ever?). From the back it looks like a generic builders/sparky van. I may still be interested if the price is right but I'm not hopeful it will be affordable for me, or for the majority of us here either.

  4. I thought I see them going to be for sale for £40k. But was hoping to do a hire purchase scheme. So I thought £400 a month. you don't pay road tax, filling up would cost £2 for 200miles I thought it would be ok. However thinking I might be naive

  5. I looked at the BMW i3 a few years ago and for something that claimed to be green, they didn’t seem to have any answers for the longer term ownership. It would be great if 3rd party batteries do arrive as some of these early evs could easily be upgraded to more modern or larger storage. I loved the i3 apart from the cost and no upgrade program.

If it does end up at 40k that becomes more affordable on a lease plan where you are just paying the depreciation etc, but I had heard 50-60k being talked about.

Be interesting to see how it pans out when you can order one. Spoke to one conversion company and they seemed to think they could camperise it.

  6. 40K and 400 a month and I'm in. I am extremely pessimistic about this though. I hope I am wrong.

I think the styling makes it look mean from the front, the opposite of our t2 or t1 vw bus styling.

  8. I bought a new T6.1 for +50k€ (More than a year for delivery, hopefully next month!!). EV costing 50% more to produce than a ICE, according to Carlos Tavares, price tag will not be for everyone.

Its a big vehicle with a smallish battery. Cool design but going to cost too much, probably better to go with a smaller vehicle with the same power train.

The logic of replacing potential payload with a big heavy battery and powering it off mostly carbon derived electricity seems broken..

I expect its nearer 100k currency units to buy.. but then again people buy T6 conversions in that price bracket.

My current "next car" thinking is trying to find a low mileage example of a 20 year old model..Before all the electronics and mechanicals got too excessive.

  10. A nice Mk 6 Golf diesel. Not a touchscreen or electric handbrake in sight

  11. Ford model T and a magneto. Don't even need a battery

  12. Can’t see that being anywhere near 40k. A bog standard T6 electric builders van is 55k and from the online reviews I’ve been watching from owners, they leave an awful lot to be desired. There’s an interesting couple of videos on YouTube posted by an electrian who posts about what it’s like to live with one. Er no thanks.

  13. This one is definitely worth a watch. Much more real world living with one.

2004 Peugeot 307 HDI.. just about has CAN bus diagnostics, no cat, DPF, DMF. . Has ABS and power steering but not stability control.. can keep up with a mk3 Golf GTi driven by a madman..

I’ve got a 2008 one the last year just before they fitted DPFs it’s been pretty bombproof.

  16. I'd also love one but i can't afford it - 40,50 whatever i still can't afford one. If it was something i could camp in then maybe if i sold the bay and used this as my daily and for camping.. but from what i've seen the first version won't be big enough for camping.

Re battery life, this comes up every time we have a thread that mentions electric vehicles - lots of stuff on youtube testing high miles teslas - at 100k+ miles they lose 11-12% ish so although there is a drop its nowhere near what we see on something like a smartphone.

There's also already a massive demand for used battery packs - either for converting petrol/diesel/ classic cars or for home storage - used tesla packs sell for 1000 each on ebay and a model s has 14 (?) of them.

I expect there will also be a big future aftermarket for replacement battery packs/ upgrades as battery technology improves - electric vehicles are less complex than petrol/diesel so i think they will potentially stay on the roads longer - replacement/ upgraded battery pack after 10 years of use may look like an attractive option vs buying a complete new vehicle.

  17. France put a special law to legalize ICE to EV conversion.
4 cars had been registered this way last year.
Not that of a massive demand.
I don't know one classic car owners ready to give up there ice engine for an electric conversion.
Some are ready to buy a new EV though.

  18. That's a positive step. Was it not legal to convert ICE to EV before the law, or is it a case of streamlining inspection and vehicle class changes?
