  2. What about that black crusty crap on pistons ( and heads) ? Its a few mm thick.

Can I just stick a new valve in then ?

How do I fix the plug thread on the head?

  3. Dont strip it down any further ... should be back on the road by Monday

  4. clean the crud off. valve is recessed in the exhaust of no.2 will need a new seat and cutting in. i would put new barrels and pistons in. BUT at a minimum new rings.

and yeah new valve on no.1 exhaust lapped in. or just do the valve and stick it back together and it'll go for another 10 years probably.

as for spark plug thread, clean it up and try a new plug, if not it may need a helicoil

  5. Can I literally just scrape the cack off with a screwdriver or something, try ing not to scratch of course?

P?ug thread has chunks of metal in it. How on earth do I fit a helicoil , what is it?

  6. I would use some brake and clutch cleaner and a wire brush.

    Google helicoil it'll be quicker!!

  7. Any tips for seized tinware screws ?

Been soaking in p!lushglushgas overnight, heads are starting to chew up now though

  8. ^this. Grab the heads with mole grips. They usually come off. If they snap, drill them out.

Machine Mart in Soton will sell you a nice helicoil kit.

  9. or hacksaw or slot into the top and try and unscrew it with a flat head

  10. Get the worst of the coke off with a small screwdriver (gently) then get a soft wire brush on a drill and polish it up. I replaced all the exhaust values (low cost and worth it) - lap them in with a lapping kit.

get the pistons out and hone the barrels - change the rings put it all back together then go camping again.

heres my attempt and the same job

  11. I usually use an impact driver with a long socket extension as its chunkier than a driver and you can get some purchase on it. A gentle whach might help but not too hard or you might damage something if they are into the case!

  12. I suggest you take notice of the experts here and do what they suggest in a methodical manner and not remove stuff you don't need to or may do more harm than good.

  13. All 4 are in awkward positions you can't get molegrips onto therm, and they're all joining tin to tin (if you see what I mean) , so any downward pressure and the tin just bends down.

I'll give them another night of p!lusgas

  14. Got pics?

  15. Is the consensus that I really need to fit new piston rings thedn?
Just don't want this to spiral.....

As Dicky says plus heat. Lots of it.

  17. which cylinder was it that had no compression originally?

  18. Just a thought - as you have the heads off is it not worth doing all the rings - worst thing is that you put it all back together only to have to do the same job in the near future because another ring has broken.

Take the opportunity to do it right - Come on.... I fecking did it and I don't have a clue :D:D:D:D
