Bought a ‘new to me’ set of bellows, and connected it to my FLAPS!
    (In the closed position).
    See what the difference is…

  2. How have you adjusted them?

Discovered why the handbrake had stopped working while on holiday...a horseshoe clip had come off and allowed the handbrake bar to fall off its pin.
Put a new one on... they are strange little things ....found the remains of the old one in the drum... now wafer thin.

Tell me more. Sounds like something I should know. I followed a guide by attaching to the rod cold, then attaching bracket to the block, giving me around about 1 cm gap, between bottom of bellows and top of the place on the bracket where they sit. Then pulling the bellows down into the bracket and fixing with the bolt.
    Is that right?

  5. Slacken the thermostat bracket a bit, screw on the stat (check the straight-sided bush at the bottom is correctly aligned for fitting in the bracket), then shove the whole lot up firmly so the flaps are fully open. Pull the bracket down so that it touches the top of the stat. That’s your stat in the fully expanded position, with the flaps open: the important bit. Tighten the bracket nut. Now pull the stat down and bolt it to the bottom of the bracket. The flaps will partially/fully shut.

That’s it. Should have a bit of a gap at the top of the stat, until the engine warms up. Then the stat expands until it hits the top of the bracket.

Just got back in from a ‘test drive’.
The thermostat is open fully to the top of the bracket. When cold, the thermostat is fully compressed.

Discovered that everything I usually just keep in the back of the van (duvet, pillow, random clothes etc) still whiffs of petrol. It's quite alarming, and I am getting paranoid in my old age. Took it all out, engaged the services of the washing machine, and dosed the rear cupboard of the camper with lashings of febreeze.

  8. Is the rod as far up as it can be?
