The screwdriver method works for me in a pinch but it's messy. :(
I have a chain remover, you need something for a type-4, it's up a hole and it's difficult to get a grip on it. I can only use that because my sandwich plate lowers it a bit.

  2. I've never had a problem getting mine off, probably because I never do it up massively tight in the first place. A type4 filter is a decent size to get a good grip on too, my daughter used to have a Peugeot 107 and the filter on that was a skinny little thing that was a right pita to get off.

I tend to overtighten mine after one unscrewed itself at 90 psi and dumped all the oil. Still just hand tight but no chance of getting back off same way. :)

  4. Get the type of filter that has a big hex head moulded onto the bottom , adjustable spanner easy access!

I always half hope I'll end up with those.

  6. Jacked him up to give him a light dusting and to check whether one of my CV joint bolts had come flying off. I had a terrific bang by the Rufus Stone the other week . All present and correct.

Fondled my CV joint boots. After all the horror stories on here, found they were rock solid. No cracks or perishing, and they must be over ten years old. Can't remember where I got them from. Gave them a good dowsing with silicone spray, gave a squirt of Dynax UB to anything else that needed it.

Went for a romp up the A303 in the cool evening air to check my new shocks. Much improved. My rear end is as firm as you like. Ooh.

  12. Not really keen on bling, but...meh.

Little alloy oil coolers. With stock cork gaskets, they don't leak a drop.

Just don't let me know your address as you may find those boots mysteriously disappearing. :D

Nahh Im not a fan of over blinged up parts, however, those valve covers for example look subtle and not overpowering..if ya gets me drift! :D

  16. No idea why the recent ones are such crap. I think I got mine with a boring set of GKN CVs from Just Kampers. There's honestly not a mark on them.

PS I take them off at night and put them in the safe ;)

There is really no reason by now that there should be rubbish CV joint boots. Ordinary cars have CV boots that last 20 years or more. But the problem is to find the boots made by an OEM for those cars, not some outfit who happens to mould cheap croc clones too..

With @mcswiggs help changed my gear coupling and put in my front gear bush which was completely missing and somebody had substituted a piece of metal pipe!

  20. Tbh a piece of well fitted metal pipe is probably not a bad idea, a few people on here have made one out of solid nylon too. The ones from the usual suppliers are generally a poor fit and tend to drop out anyway.
