Today .. I picked my bus up from mr @pkrboo ... and wow.... just wow... I loved my bus anyways.. but even more so now. If anyone is considering the dark side.. all I can say is go for it.. you wont regret it.. matt is easy to get on with.. and knows his stuff..

One step forward, two steps back for me today. The oil change was a success Next I
went to change fuel filter under the tank. What did I find? A cracked fuel pipe, the pipe I didn't change last year, doh! Then I found heat damage to the pipe running to engine bay. The second pipe must have been too close to the heat exchanger. I will use a shorter length in future. I drained fuel tank, but still managed to get a face full of the dreggs of fuel when I pulled off the short outlet hose. I shall know better next time! I then tried to make good with leftover pipe I had in my spares stash, no joy, so I made a plan, and have ordered fresh hose. Pah, the joys of VW ownership!!!!

 

Put a new tank in...



Now to get a new sender coz the old one needs bolt holes



And bend the outlet a little to get a fuel hose on it.. and poss a new filler hose as it's only about 10mm on each end after I cut it to match the old one

Drove it on a 231 mile round trip to Bristol collected daughters : 48 litres of petrol,stuff on roofrack made it burn a bit more fuel.
About 3 miles from home, near side front wheel bearing started groaning turning right...all the junk and 4 people in the bus.

 

I've been sanding and painting the tiny bubbles here and there.. (in the lovely sunshine and blue sky again, ((sorry))...can't get a great colour match but it's not as important to me as keeping the rust away before it takes hold....

 

Bought a generator! Woo! And found out I'm working from home from Monday due to coronavirus... so hopefully can get some van stuff done during the day while it's light. Once I figure out how to use it that is!

 

Ordered some new front wheel bearings and a load of transmission oil from JK for the bus.

Then ordered 100m of CAT6 cable at 1630 online from Screwfix and picked it up in the midlde of "rush hour" back home by 1715...
. Drove the bus more or less at the speed limit through roads that usually add 30 minutes each way to a 5 mile, 10 minute trip.

 

About finished engine. Just need some SP manifolds for icts. Got most other jobs done.

No. Just Halogen. The units were from custom and commercial and are genuine VW.


I have LED reversing Lamps but everything else is standard for now

Finished the fuel line service and fitted my new curtains

 

Drove it to the Peaks.

Ate Chippy lunch in it.

Had a walk.

Ate Jamaica Ginger cake in it, washed down with a cuppa.

Lovely

 

Sounds like the perfect day, but which chippy?
