  4. Oil change done and a successful test drive followed. Just needs a good clean inside and out before the weekend and then we can head to the coast for a day out

There was a lot of smoke in the cab from the heat exchangers hopefully that will disappear after a decent run to burn it off

Phoned it up. It sent me a text message. Still where I left it.

Once my T1 got oil in its heat exchangers, braking hard downhill was still unpleasant, even after the leak was stopped..

Front bushing on the shaft rod was none existent and the stop plate cracked and worn hence porridge gear stick off to AH Schofields tomorrow . Do you get discount there if you are a TLB member ?

I am on a roll! Fitted the new windscreen washer bottle and switch - and it worked. Especially pleased with myself as it didn't come with any instructions - although someone left a very helpful review on the JK website! Fixed the windscreen wiper and...most importantly...didn't break anything!!

More on the accidentally loosened oil screen plate 10ft/lb drama...
Finally got hold of a small torque wrench... but of course it's a 1/4" drive and who has a 1/4" 17mm socket? Not me.
Who has an adapter that works this way round? Not me. So I made one.
Went to tighten the nut and it clicked straight away so was already tight enough.
Maybe I should have backed it off and retorqued but I pondered that for 5 seconds and decided to leave it alone.
What a colossal waste of time that was.

Oil refilled, that was the longest oil change I've ever done. 5 days. I will now take a trip to the supermarket to warm the oil up and check it stays in the engine.

It would be interesting to get a scrap case and see just how tight you can do that nut before it snaps the case. I suspect one could actually tighten safely a lot more than 10 ft/lbs.

I happen to have a case that I’ll never use and I could do just that.
And the spec is only 9 ft/lbs.:)

My Haynes has it at 10. Same difference.
If your case is useable don't do it! Type-4 cases are hard to get. I might even be interested.

It’s useable but it has been machined and I won’t use it.

  14. Bit of a waste of a good case.

Always an act of faith with the low-value torque wrenches. The baby Teng is good. Don't use the cheap silver Chinese ones. By the time you've found out they don't work, you've stripped the thread.

That's why i wrote "scrap" case.
    I have a Teng 20-80. It's OK.

  16. Bit high, I'd say. My baby Teng goes up to ~25 ft lbs, and that's your lot.

I borrowed a tiddy one from a diesel mechanic. I have so little use for the small one I've never got myself one. I've got a whacking great big one though. Ooer missus.

I suppose depending on the heat of the case too , is it more likely to strip hot .

It doesn't strip, it snaps part of the case off.

But is it more likely to snap when hot or cold .
