Drained the oil ( before tea) …. one pushrod tube seal to change and then reset / check valve clearances…. then I just need some nice weather to go camping.

A third strip down and reassembly of the carb , check for air leaks, still definitely weird behaviour- lean out on primary barrel, up to 20:1AFR idle barely controlled by screw. Then if you floor it no problem. 12.5:1 going up hills fast so not fuel feed..
Looking around for vacuum hoses off, split boots etc.. nothing.
Did notice that the end of the mixture screw was quite oily/carbon dirty when I inspected it.. maybe the carb has a lot of grime in the airways.

I will get out the compressor and take the carb apart and blow it out next, maybe try giving it a bath in thinners first.

Then restart my long stalled fuel injection project. The question is whether to install the K-Jetronic mechanical system or whether to convert the pipework to use EFI control.

Checked its oil.... seems to be at 3/4 between the dipstick lines when cold. I'm okay with that, but will check again after a couple of runs to work this week.
I do love a nice oil change. Shame it all goes from golden to black so quickly.

  7. Did you use Waitrose Virgin 15W40 with Jojoba, as advised?

Stripped down the carb, maybe the second progression port looked a bit grubbier than the rest. Loads of carb cleaner splashed around the place..
Seems to have rediscovered the spirit of idling at 14.5:1 and revving up without hesitation..
    Test drive later.

  10. More faffage, then Litesteer bodged onto spare battery. After some twittering, GPS unit got a fix (green light), despite being buried under the dash. Twirled steering on stationary van with one finger. It is eerily quiet .

Need to tighten up the floorplate, then I'll test it in motion. Hopefully it stiffens up properly on the move.

  13. I'll have to fix my engine first! Fitting the Litesteer was a displacement activity. Looking good, tho'

Install with the pump part or at least the drain hole facing down so it doesnt fill up with water when the pump shaft lip seal leaks..
Then they last a lot longer.. one of mine managed 3 months, before the motor filled with water and it died. The next one installed effectively other way up has lasted many years..

  18. It's mounted pump down on the washer tank.

  20. Fifty quid?!! I went for the £12 Lucas-style job on the original Swedish tank bracket. The last one lasted 10 years, so not so bad.
