A convenient place to start pulling the cord from when you refit the windows.

 

Ah, sorry. Top of the side windows. Middles have 2 and rear sides have one.
Hatch doesn’t have them.

 

Yes, I wondered that. Then wasn’t sure since the hatch doesn’t have them.
I’ll be using them for that reason though.

 

Rode over to pick it up from having the starter wiring checked out due to not turning over 9 in 10 turns of the key for far too long, since I’m disinclined to lie on my back with cack falling in my eyes while I contort my hands into small spaces and arsing about with it any more, while ending up with it stuck blocking the driveway when I mess it up.
Lazy I know, but to be honest I expected it to need another new starter motor and I wasn’t going to do that. It didn’t.

Chucked my bike in it and drove home.

Now fitting some new LED rear light units to the tow bar bike rack as the old ones corroded inside and were rubbish to start with.
At least I can do that in comfort!

 

Soldered up a wire in the ignition ECU that made its graphics screen go haywire. Turned out to be a wire going to the display covered in heatshrink hiding a broken soldered joint , as the rest of the ECU was working perfectly but with a snowstorm on the screen.

Now it shows the RPM against vacuum graph and the calculated timing advance again.

 

Fitted new drag link and both track rod bars...and said goodbye to most of the vagueness in the steering.

Reminds me of getting home with our first bus - the car port - will it? won't it? I got the now-ex to keep an eye out - keep coming, keep coming - crunch, the skylight.

 

Adjusted the rear brakes, adjusted tappets.

 

Took some of the glued-on (previous owner) camping mat roof insulation off to check for rot. Glad I did, a bit of surface rust in a few places. Nice to see great condition factory original paint for the most part.

 

Oil change, checked tappets, only one was slightly tight.
Washed, polished for TE, noticed the not very old wiper blade rubbers falling apart, so strolled up to local spares shop for new ones. Charged leisure battery on 'repair' setting and topped up diesel heater tank with paraffin.

 

Not on the bay but thought I’d best get on with making some sort of bed in the Merc if we want to sleep in it at techys



All cut for the same the other side just needs screwing together and a bridge peice to go across the middle!
Order some foam sections tomorrow, good to go.
Will have to think about some sort of curtain arrangement.

Raised it up, one spline at the rear.

Cleaned and greased the brake adjusters with copperslip. Changed the handbrake cables . One side The ferrules were jammed. Had to drill out the fragment of ferrule from the tube in the chassis ( just as well I had the spring plate off to get the drill lined up with the tube) and cut the ferrule off on the backing plate and punch it out.. then on the other side the handbrake cable fell out..but the bolts were harder to undo.

The rattle gun was a total failure.
I had use Plus Gas, and then to either stand on an extension bar or use a jack to lift the extension bar to break the grip of the m12 nuts and bolts. That will teach me not to do up nuts and bolts with the rattle gun 10 years ago.

Finished off with a handbrake adjustment as it started to rain so I ended up lying in a puddle.

It should solve the headlamps pointing a bit far away with the front up in the air.. and its definitely made the steering lighter as all the angles at the front are closer to stock.

Currently the handbrake comes out about 20 clicks, once the shoes realigned themselves after a short drive.
