  3. In honour of Techenders I thought i’d at least get the van out the garage and in to the sun, to check colours for paint in daylight.
It fired up fine...a few times because I didn’t want to fill the garage with exhaust. Almost had it idling so got out to check for fuel leaks. Now it won’t start again battery still seems fine just nothing more than a click and that’s it

I’m hesitant to try too hard for too long because changing the Oil Pressure Switch is on the list of things to do. Mechanic said pressure was fine so switch must just be faulty.

Please someone tell me I didn’t just cease the engine

Sounds like the battery to me, if you’ve got a voltmeter 11.7 v or thereabouts is the critical volt/charge level.

Or could be a duff starter motor.

  5. Cheers. Both scenarios sound better than my fear
I’ll start with a battery test.

    12.22v on the multimeter test.
Quite a bit above the 11.7v.

Think i’ll charge it and do the Oil Pressure Switch before I fire it up again. I don’t fancy my luck with anything

That's pretty discharged. Not good if it's been left like that.

  7. 12.2 is not enough really, do as yous aid and charge it while changing the oil. Pressure switch, or try a jump start off another car

Thought it would be a good weekend to get back on the pickup, then have a bit of firepit action and sleep in the bus

Glad I went to dubfreeze and met a few TLB’ers now. I reckon bus fest will be the next one I can attend. Feel sorry for the guys who love this event it is always a great atmosphere and I do it when I can. Maybe September

  10. Well I've now become proficient at sliding door removal and replacement and have treated a little of the rust will finish up tomorrow. Sleeping in the camper tonight, get a good night's sleep:).
Let's hope we are allowed out for the next one
    Cheers to all

  11. Well done everyone, cracking weekend as usual. Did not do as much as I hoped to the bus (nothing!) but home safe after a nerve wracking drive home (bloody BMW drivers) of 10 meters from the drive to the garage.

Hopefully see you all again in September

Safe journey home everybody, I'm off as I've got a long journey back! I will look back fondly at my first techenders. I will always remember xxxx (fill in the appropriate name) falling over their shoelaces whilst trying to pick up their beer.... priceless :)

  13. Hope your feeling better @philntfc ...

    Look behind you ,
you've got a great view of the satellite train...:hattip:

I’ve just got home, traffic not an issue for the 3 mile journey!

Fairly productive workshop day, and hopefully I’ll keep going for another couple assuming I can get some welding gas this week as it’s about to run out!

  15. BMWs & Audi’s still don’t socially isolate on the roads

I temporarily put my sliding door seal in place, which is what you did for me at my very first Techenders
I have now gotten around to de-rusting & painting it

  16. Fully charged the battery. It now reads 13.23v.
    I’m off-the-charts charged
I hadn’t figured it was the battery because there was no whirring down of power whilst trying to start...which is what the bike & car do. Good to know a simple voltmeter check and reference to the chart can put me on a right track.
Calling my mechanic later about the Oil Pressure Switch. Have read on here it is simple to do but has to be spot-on in terms of how tight it’s screwed in. Watch this space...

I'm sure you could manage the oil pressure switch, it only goes wrong when people don't realise the hole has a tapered thread and try to wind it right in. If in doubt err loose and if it weeps a bit tighten a little more.

13.23v is measuring surface charge, you just switched off the charger. Leave it a couple of hours for the surface charge to dissipate and measure again.

  18. Well...charged the battery up to 13.23v.
Changed the Oil Pressure Switch (not too tight to start off with & checked the electrical connection is fine).
Went to start it and same thing. I can hear a low hum (as per-usual) from the back when I turn ignition on, then just a click when I go to start it

Have I forgotten how to start it up it’s been so long!?

Do the oil and charging light dim when you turn the key to start position?

  20. Yes. Generator light dims more so than the Oil Pressure, but both definitely dim.
