That's a very good explanation. I would have said, look at the slot and you will see that it is offset. Put the key in with the ovoid part on the same side that the slot is offset to. Turn the key with the ovoid side going upwards. That's how I do it. You will find that on the cab doors, one turns clockwise, the other turns anticlockwise.
