We are moving to an area where a mile or so down the road there is the proposed route for the HS2. It will also be underground when it runs past us. However I dont think there are any benefits for anyone this passes and only saves 30 minutes for a few business men in Birmingham.

There is also a small video of how it affects some people on the proposed route.

    V interesting pls watch...

yes i'm affected just like i was when they widened the trent valley line from two to four tracks, Marmite happens, i'm hoping for compulsary purchase...... but as the estate agent said 19 years ago.... don't buy a house in station drive if you don't like trains.

lol I know what you mean and we love the area and even though we wont be directly effected its still not great. It will also take 10 years to build and by that time we may have moved.
Its a lovely green belt area and thats why its going underground there.

But still feel strongly for it not to happen and trying to make as many people aware as possible.
    Strength in numbers

  4. Does seem strange, spending so much money on getting to Birmingham quicker! Would be more useful if they extended the trains so people can sit down!

It was planned to go in around 500 yards from me - on a raised viaduct to go across the A38 - it's now been move a kilometer further south across a golf course.

Its bizarre for me - many of my projects have the install of video conferencing to save cost and staff attrition - and that technology is rocketing along (facetime, skype are free, Cisco are moving towards Holograms), so I am unsure of how many people would use the train service in the future.

On the flip side - we are in a recession and we are over crowded which I think is a compelling argument that investment is needed - I travel a lot via train for work and the London to Glasgow route is busier.

For me, it takes 1 hr 8 minutes to get to Euston - HSR2 would take maybe 20 mins off that, but add at least 40 to get to a station that has it.

I do think additional carriages would make an impact on the current services, I also think that the number of business users at least will flat line soon so am unsure the business case bares scrutiny as many users are not commuters this far north.

virgin have recently spent millions adding 2 more carriages to most of it's pendolino fleet, taking them from 9 to 11 car, the problem is then the fact a lot of old stations are not long enough to handle longer trains..... as much as hs2 is gonna affect me it's a fact we are still running on an outdated victorian network, progress must be made and as much as the nimbys don't like it, it will happen and only deviate to help the governments at the time to keep their constituants happy......

^^ Maybe the money should be invested into making what is already there better and using the land that is already used rather than digging up and putting concrete on greenbelt land.

We can only keep doing these kind of things for so long before there is no green left.
