That would be an 'innuendo' then Barn.

Now your mate Tommy Cooper he was a brilliant comedian, he seldom went down the stereotypical path for laughs he was genius.

A 'bigot' I never really understood the term, still don't really- How do you class someone as a 'bigot'?

Taking offence is now a bit of an industry I think. Our awful media had a lot to answer for if you ask me. They're quite happy to cry Political Correctness Gone Mad when it suits, and then try and bring down whichever MP, Pop Star or other celebrity they've taken a dislike to, who may have said summat innocuous but it's ripe for twisting and shaping into something apparently offensive to someone or other. Stereotypes are not of themselves racist, or even automatically offensive, but they can cross a line. I think most of us have enough about us to know when that line has been crossed.

  6. Yes I've been known to do it, think we all have to some respects, but it's nice when your proven wrong when the stereotypical person or persons turn out to be completely cool and you end up thinking well, I was wrong there, I think it brings out the good in human nature when your proven wrong,......being an aging hippee with a camper I hope that makes some kind of sense, cause I just read it back and well it must be the pot.

Mute point. I am married to an Italian and the stick I took for years was unending. I never took offence, Lou never took offence and her family never took offence because overall people were very kind. Other people took offence on their behalf at times and it could be quite embarrassing as the argument unfurled!

  8. i was talking to fred today about stuff n he said , we knew no different in the sixties but do you remember standing on the back seat n poking your head thru the sun roof of your mates dads jag whilst he was driving reasonably fast n it was fun . and watching funny comedy programmes that would be banned now .

As I said Barn - different world!

  10. racism is race/colour/creed

bigotry is predudice against anything. Fat people, tall people, midgets, gays, colour, race creed, chav's etc etc.

In reality one is as bad as the other - the world has no place for racism, bigotry on the other hand, i'm guessing that if people analysed themselves there is a little bit of bigot in everyone.

  13. Probably true after all one hardly goes camping with a dinner jacket or morning coat and tails in the wardrobe does one? Though of course this may not be the case with caravan owners where dress protocols do exist...

I am a white van driving builder, who sounds like a Londoner, but lives in the Fens.....stereotyping!,...bring it on!

I don't give a Marmite what people say to me. It's all just words. Most people think one thing and then say the more PC option out loud. I'm doing it myself now as I type, thinking one thing and typing a self moderated version that won't get me crucified by the masses.

Freedom of thought is all we have left;)

  18. It's a bizarre world we live in really, I'm an estate agent during the week (and weekends for that matter)and I've always had stick for that and I swear that most of the people I work with think I'm a lazy hippy, but I don't give a toss really. I work in a high pressure environment but when I'm in my Westy I haven't a care in the world, apart from the oil level, temperature, tyres, will it make it to Brighton this week, is the propex ok, ;)

To be fair I grew up with all the stereotypes but I wanted to travel when I was young and that's the only thing that can broaden any mind, without it people will believe what they read, hear or see.

Thankfully most young people will always embrace such opportunities and I hope my children do the same
