I was involved in a project with Imperial College a few years ago using infrared spectroscopy to detect traces of solvent left in decaf coffee. The solvent was used to eliminate the caffeine from the beans which were then flushed with super heated steam, all our stainless steel cells would dissolve very quickly so we had to make them out of high grade hastelloy and use industrial diamonds in the sides to shine the beam through. Even then they'd only last a cople of months. Needless to say I never drink decaf!
Pie should have pastry all round, shortcrust is best. Great places for pies: The Pie Pub - The Fluer Dr Lys in Lowsonford on the Stratford canal and Mad O'Rourkes Pie Factory near Dudley. You can get a Desperate Dan or A Large Allotment pie.
