Yes, but with the later, deeper bell housing. I have a 76 box on my 73 1600, 3 rib with the 10mm (approx) deeper bell housing. Required the later SM and a modification to the gear change rod to fit a <75 Bay.
Later Bays had a CU box if I recall. My 78 T1 had one, which had been replaced by a CE: early box on a late bellhousing.
I have the RAC525 to go on my engine, which is replacing a 311 911 023 SM. As others on this thread will confirm, I know nothing about all these things, however, when I did fit the RAC525 on a 3 Rib it went on with no hassles. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In this instance, the gearbox itself (ie 3 rib, 6 rib etc) is irrelevant, it's which bell housing you have that matters. Earlier bell housing matches with 311 911 023, later bell housing with 091 911 023. Both early and late bell housing can be fitted to any 3 rib 1600 box.
@Little Nellie Do you know what the engine serial number is, just the first two letters? On the crankcase below the breather tower, not the one on the fan shroud.
Correct, but a 3-rib box would not have been fitted to a 2.0l engine and the 2.0l 228mm clutch won’t fit in an early bellhousing.
Thanks I’ll have a look, but it’s actually an air cooled T25 2 litre type 4 with late bay fan shroud. It has both usual dipstick and a plugged up T25 on that used to pull out of the reg plate area.
So it suggests a little trickery, because with input shaft swapping and flywheel fiddling anything is potentially possible. Ratwell explains somewhere...
https://ratwell.com/technical/FAQ/FAQContent.html#faq-trans Section 4. The engine will most likely be a CU code if it's from a T3.
Yes, I was just wondering if the engine might be a 1700 or1800 but it looks like it is a 2.0l with a smaller clutch. This is what I was getting at: ‘In general if you have a 2.0L engine with a 228mm clutch and pressure plate it will only fit the 091 bell housing. This means to use an earlier transmission with the 228mm flywheel you'll need the later bell housing otherwise you'll need to use a smaller clutch and pressure plate. The 228mm flywheel only engages the SR87 starter which complicates swapping (the earlier starter won't reach the flywheel teeth because of the bell housing...)’
Yes, you have an early bell-housing (with a 3-rib box) on a late 2.0l engine with a small clutch. The early bell-housing needs the early starter motor.
Flipping ek, you thought there was a lot of posts yesterday- 193 now on this one now. Good job you’re not charging an hourly rate .
