Silly questions you're afraid to ask about your bay

  1. Did they ever make a diesel engine?

  3.
  4. Keeps stopping OH sorry need more petrol ;D

  5. Water or air cooled?

  6.
  7. Any reason why they didn't do an air cooled version?

I'm thinking like diesel mixers and the like are all air cooled.

  8.
  9. What does the little silver button do on the dash? On the bottom right corner on the drivers side.

  10. Ok So this probably is a real dumb but technical question.

What's the difference between petrol and diesel, what would need adapting (hypothetically)? I know diesel needs a stronger spark and burns hotter but surely the principle is the same

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Diesel doesn't have a spark, it ignites under compression. The compression ratio needed is more than twice a petrol a/c.

  12. That would explain glow plugs - to pre warm the air/fuel mixture prior to compression?

So, hypothetically, every seal would need upgrading to withstand the higher compressions?

  16. No real reason, I was just pondering. As I said the diesel mixers are air cooled.

Don't know why I starting thinking about that - think it was the diesel thread.

silly question but here goes --

What does a rear wheel bearing sound like when its going , i have a sort of scraping noise on the back , i have changed the driveshaft and its still there ( although the change of driveshaft and the overhaul of cv joints was needed anyway ) , it scrapes until i coast and then goes , after a while it goes anyway and then comes back periodically --

  18. Bearings tend to rumble.

Check your backplates (or look out for a stone in your hubcap :) ).

  19. Backplate being caressed by the brake drum. Sometimes caused by the hubnut not being up to full torque and allowing the shaft to drift....or something. ;D

back plates are old , drums are new , strangely enough its only been making this noise since the drums were changed .
